Welp, I got the new and significantly better fuel pump on, a sexy solid state one that's nice and quiet, mounted on the frame near the rear wheel well. So far it seems to be doing much better and is having no issues cutting out. I did notice a little sputtering a little this afternoon after letting the car idle for a bit, but it's like night and day so far.
I'll be posting another thread on some weird cooling issues I've uncovered along with this fueling issue.
Thanks everyone for the PM's and calls and input!
Mike

Does it the fuel pump , still run if you pull the coil wire out to kill the motor ?

For educational purposes, what was the wrong pump, and what was the quiet new pump that was correct?

Great question Linda!!
Pump was initially a generic from napa that was mounted in the inner fender well of my 1600. Did a terrible job of getting fuel to the carbs.
New quiet pump was a Facet posi-flo 2.5-4 psi from Napa. Pump was mounted near the rear wheel, and has been doing great after multiple drives with zero hiccups.
I believe the biggest issue here was the installation location.
