Well you make some good points. In some cases it is clearly greed since you see them list repeatedly over the years. Either that or they truly are clueless.

On this very website, I harp about the Tech Wiki Parts Interchange page which many people do not know about still....It can save you a ton of money on aftermarket parts.

Sometimes the bidding is just fun (in a silly stupid way). Half of the fun I've had is collecting the parts. Recently as Linsurp (sp?) was selling all of his parts on eBay plenty of Roadster owners were bidding some of the items to crazy numbers. Heck his vent tube for the gas tank sold for more than twice what Paul Wells sells them for. I've sold a few things on eBay years ago, but it's hard to price as the Roadster community is pretty small so you want to stay fair. I end up giving a lot away that I probably could sell but as someone said I wouldn't want a friend on the board to be upset because the item was not to a standard. It is a funny topic as someone has had a "rare" U20 crank on and off eBay for at least a year for hundreds of dollars (the descriptions are the best part). Thanks for the thread revival and smile...time to check eBay!

Yup, I got outbid. In most cases I looked at the vendors price first.

If it's an item that only Rallye has I then make a judgment about the price and whether used is okay or how bad do I want it within reason.

Ive done the research on my parts and even though theres only one other NOS Amp Gauge that is priced nearly double my asking price I still get lowball offers. Luckily its a small box and doesnt bother me to just keep it and refreshing my ad.

If you send one to be repaired it will cost you probably close to $200. To have my early amp gauge converted was over $200. That's just the way it is now for gauges.

My asking price for a NOS gauge is less than that! The only other one out there (that Ive seen) is well over $200

I try to tell everyone and anyone to always check with Nissan directly 1st or from one of the reputable vendors on the list here. I agree it is pretty sad people will pay crazy high prices for items (used) - when you might be able to buy the same thing (brand new) from the dealership or vendor.

Example: take a look at the 1600 valve cover nuts ("Nut-Cap" item # 01217-00052) and spacers/washers ("Washer Cap-Nut" item # 13275-F1000)
Ebay (brand new) sells the set (2 nuts and 2 washers) for over $40
Nissan Dealership (brand new) sells the nuts at $3.50/each and the washers at $5.75/each::: This totals the set to $18.50

This is one small example...

But on the flip side - to find them on Nissan takes time/energy/research/etc and I think some people just want convenience and no "treasure hunt"... I also think many of the ones buying the items could just be a shop doing the restoration work and don't spend time hunting for the best price - just want to get the car finished.
