I used Vern's as well, although that was about 2003 or so.
One of my work buddies (Rob) went to them recently, and the conversation went like this:
Vern's: Sure, we'd be glad to do this for you. Is this a show car?
Rob: No, just a respectable classic.
Vern's: Well then I will be honest, you can't afford us.
The SoCal AQMD (Air Quality Management District) is VERY strict and clamping down in all sorts of areas, driving up chrome shop overhead rates. So places that do good work have higher costs, and when they get too busy they cannot expand, so they just get more choosy in their clients (translate as "client$").

Need chrome, will travel..

For the Seattle person looking for chrome work to be done:
https://www.queencityplating.com/
They did many pieces for me, including cam cover, air cleaner, door openers, window regulator handle and stock wheel covers. Expen$ive, but nice work!

Not sure if they are still around but years ago I always sent my parts to "Art Brass Plating Inc." in Seattle. Found the old business card in my roadster files yesterday. Always was pleased with the outcome. Phone numbers on card as follows:
206 767 4443
1 800 828 3186

Hi,
Anyone know of any good chrome shops in Tampa, FL?
Spacecoast Plating in Melbourne did my bumpers, headlight scoops 15 to 20 years ago and they still look great. They also straightened my mangled
and dented side trim pieces and polished to look like new. The door trim was really dented from contact with the front fender. Recently had them polish
my valve cover.

Here in the midwest a bunch got shut down ? 10 years ago , the used chemicals have to be barreled to a disposal site , usually out Utah , NM. way .
I always went for one that did semi truck plateing , which isnt done much on todays trucks( they would throw it in with theirs )

I was happy with Walkers Custom Chrome in Shasta City, California.
There’s a lot of Hot Rod guys up here that have sworn by Walker’s custom chrome. I’ve seen the work. Fantastic.
Unfortunately they’re now completely closed. Not sure if it was retirement or the covid lockdowns.
Too bad, turns out they were 5 minutes away from me.
Oh well, scratch that one off the list.

I can offer the following referrals for chrome work in southern California:
1) GSM Polish-Ontario CA-Gerson 323.674.4062
re-chromed my bumpers (68 SRL) including filing/welding my over rider holes. Work was performed in 2020, very happy with the results.
2) Linco Industries-Anaheim CA 714.635.2800
re-chromed various trim pieces including 2 sets of headlight trim, front grill badge, trunk handle and 2 license plate light housings. work completed Aug 2022.
Feel free to PM me for pictures of the work.

I’ve been using Metro Chrome in Mesa Arizona for years. They decided to retire so they are now closed. I’m looking at Speed and Sport Chrome in Houston (recommended by Metro).
