Why should I spend 200$ on Mikunis then?

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
So is it safe to say that Solex Mikuni, Webber, Delorto, and OER all have the same mounting flange.
If they are all the same I would think that it would be an advantage to make the new intake match the carbs and do away with the old Solex insulators.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
If you have an OEM manifold, the bolt spacings are offset. Without modifying things, you need the OEM spacers. In this case, we are talking a custom manifold. With a custom manifold, go with what is readily available.

Not 100% on this, but without some sort of insulator, I’d expect you could potentially run into some set up issues (foaming fuel etc..)

You could steal the insulators off of an L series intake and make a flange molded to that

Plenty of soft mounts available as well as phenolic spacers.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
Is someone running a 1600 with the Webber carbs and intake, they appear to use a solid insulator. Are there any bad side effects from running this design.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
Regarding the original isolators, weren't they made that way to allow the use of 50mm carbs if desired without having to change the manifold Itself? I heard or read that somewhere I think. But yes, as noted all 44/45mm carbs out there have the same bolt pattern, so that was why I was saying that we could reduce the potential overall cost by using an existing soft mount.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
Sounds good to me Greg, one less obstacle to mounting some side drafts.
Unless the opinions drastically change in the near future, the new custom intakes will come without the need for the old Solex insulators.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
There was a 50mm solex manifold. Pretty scarce now. The Pierce manifolds use the rubber O ring soft mounts iirc. Phenolic spacers are available as well.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
The phenolic spacers served two purposes, correct? 1) To reduce heat transfer and 2) To reduce vibration?
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
I like the idea of using the phenolic spacers with their heat reduction capabilities.
Has anyone made a phenolic spacer for between the head and manifolds.
That would the best place to start reducing the heat transfer.
My concern is their thicknesses and how it will affect the overall length of intake, carbs, filter, and spacers.
At this point I can still change intake length, so I need your input to these spacer options.

Pretty thin - thinner than the OEM insulators.

Re: Do You Have a Solex Intake, Please Help with Dimensions
Thanks to all who furnished dimensions, pictures, suggestions and advise.
The 3D models have been sent out for 3D printing.
Later this week I will have the printed project in my hands for a final fit and tolerance check.
The linkage design is still coming together, not easy to do while trying to keep it looking like a factory setup.
I'm using linkage pieces from 1600 intakes to help with the factory appearance.
If you have any 1600 linkage pieces you would like to sell please contact me.
Next will be getting the parts cut and building a jig for assembly.
I'm looking forward to completing the first intake so I can install my new OER 45's and hear them sing.
Thanks again to everyone here on this forum.

FYI you can NOT use Weber soft mount! Big vacuum leaks.
