First off, welcome to the forum. Now about a top. Tops are available from several of our vendors. Check the quick links tab. I can personally attest to the quality and fit of the stayfast top sold by Stan's Datsun roadster parts. Vinyl is a cheaper option and available as well. Don't know why you don't want a zipper, but I consider it to be a non issue. To your installation question. It's costs about as much for the labor to install a top as the top itself. Installation is not hard, but it is tedious and if you screw up...well, then you're screwed. Definately need a helper to install. I did mine myself (with a helper) a couple of months ago and was very pleased with the results. It's all about being patient and methodical. Follow the directions in the tech wiki and it's not hard. You really need to be OCD about straight and balanced and totally comprehend the instructions to be guaranteed a great fit. If your ok with "good enough" then I suggest having a pro do it. Thanks very much Mike, appreciate the insight. I know that personally I'm a "good enough" guy (my dad always said the enemy of "good" is "better" - usually served me well but looks like not in this case) so getting a shop to help might be the way for me.

Unfortuanly the top is one of those items that you don't get a mulligan on if you mess it up. A poor fit not only looks bad, but can leak as well. Of course A watertight roadster is a bit of an oxymoron anyway. The real fear is making a hole in the wrong place. Again it's not a "hard" job, just one that requires precise measurements.

I did mine about a year ago. It is a tedious job at best but if you have any DIY in you it is do-able. Take your time and follow the instructions and it will be fine. I worked with my wife and got it done: and I think everyone knows about working with their wife on a project. I will say since completing that project I have never put the top back up, but in case of emergency it is there. I did the top boot as well. Make sure if you have a shop do it they know where to get the correct hardware, postie and twisties. I know a lady in Boise that had a top done on a 68 and they "couldn't" find the correct hardware so they used snaps, it works and she is happy. Good luck either way you go.
