And honestly, being "upside down" in the car is just more incentive to keep it... :smt003

Heard that. Make it what you want it. It only becomes an investment the day you sell it or give it away

Also just realized that while I've been lurking on this forum for 10+ years, I think I didn't actually sign up until the day I bought this car... :smt003

Notice the sticker on the windshield? Photo is from 2004.

I'm thinking I used to be on here under a different username and I forgot my password so I made a new account... :smt005

Wow, I still miss my '72 510SSS after 25 years. Used it to rally and ski.

Sometimes I feel like I am the only person who doesn't "get " the 510s...

That is because you are the only person!
And we all know your disdain for the dime very well :P

spl310 wrote:You know, it is funny - I don't get 510s, but I GET that!! That is a neat looking car!
spl310 wrote:First, let me say that I don't get the 510s. I have never driven one and have no desire to do so. They look like the box that everything else came in.
spl310 wrote:You know, it is comical that I keep hearing the "have you driven it" line. The dime guys all say that when someone says that they don't "get" the 510. The dime looks like an economy box. I just don't really see me driving a dime because they don't do it for me.

Back in the early 80s when all we could afford was $75.00 VWs, The experience behind the wheel of my pals 71 510 with an L20 5sp and 44 miks was A FRIGGIN BLAST. Did an all nighter out to Neah bay and back. Sadly a few years later, that car met a tragic end, (light pole).
For the $$, it was an amazing car back then.
i should dig up those paper pics.

The weirdest thing, to me...

Most of the Roadster guys I know just like Roadsters. Most of the Z guys I know just like Zs. Most of the 510 guys I know like anything with a Datsun badge on it, including Roadsters and Zs. :smt003

I recall being made to feel like a bit of an outcast by the dime guys at Summit Point.
