When you say rehooped what do you mean?
What offset did you go with?

Thanks guys for the input

Rehooped, I had centerline cut the centers out from the rim and move them to the
out side of the rim as far as they could, I can not tell you the exact offset I would have to
measure to get the back spacing.

One last question about wheels; has anyone done 8" wide on the front successfully?

What is "successfully"?

What size tire is also important!

Are you looking for the rim or the tread being under the fender?

Okay let's try this:
Has anyone done 8" wide tires on the front without flaring (of whatever year they did it on, it does matter to me. Yes I know the 69-70 have the largest factory flares.) The tire size could be a 15 with a 50 series or equivalent (i.e. 17/40). The suspension would preferably be sport but it does really matter to me.
I'm really just curious if someone has gotten 8" rims to fit on the front and how they did it without flaring. Nothing more complicated than that.

Lower front portion of the front fender could interfere with the tire when turning, going more than seven inches wide stock. Adding more offset inboard wont work because the rim interferes with the upper ball joint/A arm and front sway bar.

IMHO 8" rims don't fit under the front wheel wells without loosing some turning radius. they will hit either the sway bar or the upper A-arm.
The only tire that requires a 7.5" rim or larger rim, I could find in a small enough diameter <23.5" is an Yokohama S.drive size 225/35R17 and it could be too large a diameter on a lowered car.
There is a lot more choices at 215/35R17 or 205/40R17 ...both are still a little bit large in the diameter at 23" and 23.5"

Thank you David and Phil for the constructive responses, they are appreciated. I figured that the tires would rub the sway bar but I thought that maybe, just maybe, that the larger diameter rim might clear the a-arms. That's why I was asking if anyone has done it successfully.
The issue I'm having is I can find rims I want in 17's, which I like, but not in a width smaller that 8". The allturnitive is to change bolt pattern, which is not entirely out of the question. Decisions decisions

Hit up a used wheel place to find a single for cheap and do a fit check.
Make sure there is an ok to return policy .)
Ive never tried to fit a 17. Still may be interference with the upper A or the grease zerk at full rebound.
