Jon...Incredible car. I remember back in the 90's (maybe 1996?) oogling over your roadster at Solvang. The new incarnation is phenomenal !! I'll be back in HB over the Winter Holiday...would love to see her in real life.

And...I'd just like to say how lucky the roadster community is to have a guy like Kevin who is helping to bring our roadsters to life!

Thanks Michael... That speedo almost didn't happen as it was almost as difficult to find a unit to steal the parts from as it was to modify it into the roadster case. Would have preferred to use an Autometer gauge as the donor but couldn't find one so we ended up using a unit made by Steward Warner.

Thanks James…I’ll have to get back you regarding the way it drives as Kevin hasn’t tossed me the keys yet. He says it has something to do with the final tune but I’m starting to think I should be chalking the tires or checking the odometer?

I honestly haven’t totaled it up yet and even if I did I’m sure that I’d forget as much as I would remember but I will say that Kevin has been awesome to deal with and has treated this car like his own from the very start. Which is why I fully expect to see a grown man cry when it finally does leave his garage for good.

Thanks Phil and Skyman….It was Phil’s and Ron Hamilton’s FJ cars that gave me the bug to build a car like this and I came very close to buying Ron’s car back in 2005 or 2006 so hoping this one fills the void.

Thanks Dan and you are correct, I finished this car (the first time) back in 1998 and I had originally started that build with my dad but unfortunately he passed away before we could finish it. He and I had originally intended to do an implant back then so I feel pretty good about finding Kevin and finally getting it done. (And I will be in town over the Winter Holiday so come by any time!)

The game plan is to put some break in miles on the new engine and then run her over to the Dyno for some final tuning along with some RWHP numbers which I don't mind saying has had us all giddy with anticipation since day one!

I remember Kevin hammering on Mark's car's stuck solenoid with a jack on the Winter Fun Run last year, so nice to see he has the full spectrum of skills!!!!!LOL. Very nice!
Fully expect to see the car on that Fun Run around Feb or so.

What was wrong with the original R16?

Great work Kevin and company...I like the polished plumbing and the gauges are icing on the cake. Will the RX-7 be able to handle the VE-T? Ted's has a FORD setup, HA!

The original R16had nothing wrong with it. it is sitting pretty in my engine bay. It replaced my H20. Kevin did the install and did a beautiful job on the engine bay redoing the wire harness and Eliminating useless wires, relays and other nonessentials. He cleaned it up real nice. Now I’m proud to open my hood.

Each time Kevin does a new build he seems to out do himself. Each car is Beautiful and unique. Although I think Jon might need a pilot license to drive this one

I was kind of avoiding this topic so as not to upset the purist's but the only problem with the original R16 was that for me it fell short by about 300 horsepower. (Sorry guys but I already have a 2 liter and it still didn't quite get me there.) It just so happened that Chris was in need of a new engine for his 1600 so not only does another roadster live but I don't have to drag that R16 home...yes!

Thanks Mike, Kevin installed the modified Mazda rear end and also added an additional traction bar to the drivers side so from everything we have read it should be good to at least 400 horsepower but we won't know for sure till we put it to the test.
