The rear sway bar location is unusual and the panhard bar setup is something I haven't seen before. I do like that they set up a rear diff cooler though.

Sometimes I forget about vintage rules. It's always a conflict between wanting to improve the cars performance and staying true to the ideal of period correct. I will just have to figure out another sneaky and less obvious way to get cool air to the carbs....ha.

Differential cooler? Is there a Transmission cooler too? Wow.

I removed the head to see what was going on.
Not so good, coolant was leaking into the cilinder.
So the engine will get new pistons and the head is easy to clean.
Made some photos of the front wheel suspension.
interesting how the made the lower ball joint and what they added to the frame.

Those are custom made pistons. Not sure if they are R engine ones or not. Looks like a high compression engine (not surprising).

Those are not R pistons.

Lower ball joint....

I don't like what they did. They lowered the car by raising the lower ball joint in relation to the spring perch..... I have seen several car that lowered the spring perch to achieve the same.

I would suggest you lower the pivot of the ball joint back to a stock relationship to the lower control arm and use a longer shaft ball joint. It looks like its a Chevy lower joint....they may have changed the taper of the spindle.

I don't know what taper they used...but Howe should have something you could use.....

I would make a plate with a screw-in mounting ring.

Those look very similar to the arias forged pistons I run. They had to be carefully machined to fit the engine without hitting the valves, and to give a decent "street" compression ratio (11.7 to 1). Should be very nice! Watch your clearances especially with a big cam.

Very similar to mine as well. I needed a lot of head work also.

Did you buy this car from the Pacific Northwest with the James 1600 ?
