Yep, try coasting in a vacant parking lot. (Pepperdine?) and making a arcing turn to right and left to see if you can make it happen. Sounds pretty darn minor to me.
Maybe as part of the Solvang fun run we should all switch cars every 10 miles.

Update
Did some coasting and turning and I could hear a rubbing with periodic metal sound. Does not do it all the time.
The front wheel bearings looked good and moved freely with plenty of grease from the prior repack. I think they must have been replaced, NSK bearings. Seal looked fine also.
No movement in ujoints.
With the rear wheels on jack stands I rotated the L and R
Wheel on the R one is "rumbly". So I think that is it....
The noise must be transmitting to the front which is why it sounded like it could be coming from up there. Odd because with the tire off it did not seem as noisy.
Hopefully a fix will clear this issue.

On Linda's last post, if you've never done rear wheel bearings or repacked them, may as well get it done and get a look at the backing plates.

What Fergus said about switching cars makes great sense just in general, what you think is normal may not be and a different set of ears can be good. It would be a fun event, Musical Roadsters, stop, everyone switch cars, then keep going.

That would be fun, but if we do it on the ride up, its going to be more like every 30 minutes.......I am game for next year.

Here's a 32x62x16 bearing that is known as special bore 6206 elsewhere for the rear axle. That one is KOYO but this one is NTN, Japanese.

Not sure who has actually tried this yet but in another thread someone said all dimensions were equal to Nissan. Only question is in regards to suitability for a axle.
Anyone tried this one?
I am going to use a Nissan bearing but wondered about this one.

Seen this question asked before about that bearing. The question which concerns me is does it have the same axial strength?

The mystery noise was a right rear wheel bearing and it's ugly. Probably worse than when I first posted as I drove a little bit after I posted originally. Since I didn't know what it was I was thinking possibly engine, but now it appears that this is the culprit for several types of noises. Hope the axle is OK Linda

Linda, one. Of the big concerns with bearings gone bad is heat buildup changing the heat treat of the shafts. Yours don't show any bluing at all in those pics, due to not being driven long distances.
Looks like you are good to go, but maybe a true visual by an expert would be worth it.

Yes I am going to have the machinist check it.
And aren't you glad we didn't switch cars? Nothing like losing a wheel....LOL

OWCH! Are you going to do both axles?

I will check other axle too. I know they should be replaced in pairs.

Linda, did you check to see if the oil seal had failed washing the grease out of the bearings? You may want to consider the sealed bearings as a replacement just in case. Dean has a nice kit.

I haven't checked oil seal yet though it will be replaced.
The sealed bearing is nice but I am already set up with the stock Nissan bearing.
Axle is with the machinist today for eval and work.
