Thanks for posting the photos! My process was similar. As you noted, there are a couple spots where there are close fits. The back of the arm rest is one. If you are not careful, you can increase the back length of the arm rest and it will not open/close without drilling out the brackets to move the arm rest forward.
The other tight spot is around the gear shift cover. The cover lip extends down so that you can clamp the gear shift boot to the cover. That "lip" needs to fit down between the two arms. If you don't clamp the new cover tightly there, the hole for the gear shift cover will be too small.
The final area to think about is that the arms that lock into the central console seem to have a different curve than the cover (who knows, perhaps the cover is right and my arms were just bent over time and that is why it is cracked). Fitting this right with the new cover can be tricky. I ended up just getting long screws and by tightening them down at the console/shift plate, forced the curve... Not happy with that approach as it might crack down the road...
