Here are some shots of the newly painted wheels and the truck without the make shift fender flares and ladder rack. I also removed the fuel tank and started dis-assembly, that is why the grill is missing.

I finished restoring the rims and got to putting in a new water pump, coolant hoses, the rebuilt carb(thanks to Keith Williams) the rear wheel cylinders, hardware, hoses and shoes. I plan on putting in the new shocks next then replace the front brake cylinder, hardware shoes and new front shocks. I already put in the new brake and clutch master cylinders and have the starter at a shop being rebuilt. Here are some pictures of the progress.

Chiming in with a "miss my truck' post. I had a '70 in 11'th grade and absolutely beat the crap out of it. Flipped it on it's side, tore the box off (2 separate events) flipped it onto its side again. Sold it for $50 bucks 3 months later.

The 80's were a different time....

The sight of a Weber carb with the Redline gauze filter was my first introduction to "high performance" on my first 620 PU. When I saw that I wanted the truck. After that, that image got me curious about performance mods, and it all stemmed from there.

I finally finished the front brakes and shocks. I put new shoes, brake cylinders, brake hoses and hardware on. I also put new urethane sway bar bushings in as most of the last ones were missing . I put the restored wheels on the truck so I can check how it stops. I thought I would get that chance this weekend but the shop that rebuilt my starter needs to do it again. Keith Williams came by yesterday to help me properly install the carb linkage choke cable. We were going to tune the carb once it was running but the starter is dropping 3 volts across the solenoid and won't engage but once every few turns of the key and even then not very hard. I will bleed the brakes and clutch this week while waiting for the starter. i hope to post video of it running through my neighborhood soon!

So I have made great progress on the truck in the last few weeks. I got her running right with a rebuilt carb and installed an electric fuel pump. I then properly bled the clutch slave and it now moves under its own power in more than a decade! I have finished stripping the cab to bare metal and even stripped the floor pans, used rust converter on the surface rust and sprayed them with a rubberized undercoating. I will finish sanding the interior pieces that will be painted with the car this week and start the limited bodywork. I have cut out the few cancer spots and welded in new replacement patches. I have removed the bed (i am having a mobile soda blaster strip it for me) and cleaned and coated the frame. The way things are progressing I might have it done to take to the JCCS show in Long Beach next month. It will have a for sale sign in the window of course. I posted a few pictures of the progress.

Zippy which weber are you running a 32/36 or a 38/38?
That is awesome that Keith is as well versed with the webers as he is with the SU's.

The 32/36 is what was on the car when I got it. It is nice that the rebuild kits are available and pretty cheap. yes, I am very lucky to have Keith in town. He is going to rebuild me a set of SU's for my 67 and I plan on filming the rebuild so I can study it and try and become better at it myself.

It is nice that they are so readily available. I had a 32/36 on my 2002 when i first purchased it. At first I thought it was great for gas mileage being a progressive carb. I toyed w/setting up a 'syncro' so that the 32/36 was a synchronized carb, but for the price went for a 38/38 instead. The fun factor REALLY opened up when i put a 38/38 on there. The gas mileage change was minimal at best. If it will work well for that engine, I'd strongly consider it.

Just painted last weekend. Got the doors and fenders also. Still need to sandblast and bodywork the bed.

Very nice! I too am going to paint it the stock turquoise. I have about 4 more hours of body work on the cab then another 10 or so on the bed. I should spray it by the end of the month then it's just a matter of getting the interior done and everything put back together.

I like those cars, are these build on the same chassis as our roadster?
And is the engine an L20 or so.

not the same chassis, and these were kingpin/drum brake for much longer.
J13 (1300cc) in the 520's, then L16 in the 521's, and L18 well into 620's (so called "bullet side" styling), then went to L20 later on in the 620's.

reputation for being long-lasting, take a beating and won't die. very small cabs early on, and dead simple, but i love them.
