Joshua, congrats and welcome to the fun! There has certainly been some work done, it's hard to tell from the pics but if the side trim is not there and if it's smooth then the holes and channel were filled with something (looks like the PO shaved the hood letters as well, maybe the gas cap was for the shaved look)? As Brian said there is most likely rust/damage at the rocker end cap (front area of pic)…as stated you will need to remove the fender and doing that should tell what you’re in for as the bottom rear bolt for the fender is directly under your “hole”…and I imagine the metal is rotted and thin in that area as the door pillar is hollow and installed on top of the rocker…I’m guessing the seam on the bottom slowly got blocked off by dirt and crud and when water could no longer drain out, it sat and eventually rusted its way out . Also as Greg said...really check those floors (especially along the door seam on that pass side)…to have that much damage in that spot and still have solid floors is certainly possible, but not probable. I didn’t discover my floor damage until the seam sealer and undercoating were removed.

Hey Joshua, kind of late to this party but I live in Knoxville. Needless to say there are not a lot of roadster owners in Iowa. I know of two others and have never met either one of them. My brother who lives in Carlisle had a 68 but it burned up to a carby fire. He moved on to a BMW Z3. I do not have a ton of time but am willing to help any way I can. Did you pick up that second car? There may still be a free 66 up by Iowa Falls-no title and I have only seen pictures. Any ways, welcome to the forum.
