Using Work Equip 1 wheels as an example. When they machine the mounting flange, they do it two different ways which they refer to as "O" and "A" disk. The "A" has a 10 mm thicker flange area, which gives more caliper clearance but the thicker flange require a longer stud.

I thick there are more offsets available than there are casting, so some have a thicker flange.

My 15x7 +12 Retro 4 have a very thick flange (lots of caliper clearance), but require longer studs.
They offer +18 and +12 wheels 15x7 wheels.....the +18 wheels may just have a 6mm thinner flange on the same casting.

My wheels have a metal insert for the lug nuts to seat against. They have a "shank" portion that help hold it in place that goes almost completely through the flange. They may have different inserts for different offsets or they might machine the flange after the inserts are installed.
My inserts would be machined if It took more than 3 mm off the flange.

I have 14x6.5 Hayashis on my car with stock studs. 15x7 Hayashis also fit on the stock studs.

I'm waiting to hear if Kevin's Rotas require longer studs. I'm sure other RB guys know.

I put longer studs in, but I had hubs apart anyway and decided that the studs were cheap maintainence going forward while everything was apart..

Regarding the need for longer studs on VTO wheels. Most all applications need them.

Garm, the car looks GREAT! But I'm surprised that the studs didn't need replacing (maybe they have been replaced already). I've seen studs of varied lengths on the same hub. It may be that replacements over the years varied in length as well.

VTO uses the same outer mold for every wheel. The face of say a 15x6 wheel, regardless of offset, will have the same exact dimensions and appearance. The offset is adjusted by removing material from the hub mounting surface. Lower offset wheels have a thicker center than a higher offset one.

The steel lug nut seats are inserted into a recesses machined into the face of the wheel. A +3 offset wheel will have a very deep recess for the lug nut when compared to a +24 which is much shallower. The distance from hub mounting surface to lugnut seat is the same on a +3 offset as it is on a +24 so offset is not the cause of needing or not needing longer studs on a VTO wheel.

New wheels installed had to use longer studs.
Went down from 17's to 16x7's

Yes it is! Ours is also a BRZ, i can only wish to have my roadster handle the way that car does.

Those VTO LeMans reproductions in 15x6 look very nice on the roadster. Are the tires 195/50/15?
