Re: How to Replace wheel studs.
I'm down for BBQ, give me a PM anytime. Off mostly weekends. The rear studs are easy, the front took some pursuading to get the mount apart.

Cool, I'm typically free Sundays. I'll do it after March 10th (time change), gives us more daylight.

Are these the only alternative we have for longer wheel studs?fj20spl311 wrote:You need to check how many threads engage on the stud to determine which studs you need.
These are not an exact fit, I cut the groove a little with a knife file and tamper the grooved section.
From an earlier post!
There is the smell of new tires in my garage....Man they smell good!!!
Bolted the wheels onto the front of my yellow garage queen to check how many threads the nuts engage.
OMG Only 6 turns
that's only 1/3 inch needs to be at least 1/2 inch i.e. 10 turns (20 THREADS 1")
Here are studs that should work correctly.
The first is your Corvair stud that's ~.33 inches longer (still too short for me) SHOULD BE 10-12 turns total.
The second is Chevy rear disc brake stud a little over .5 inches longer then stock SHOULD BE 16-18 turns total.

The vendors also sell longer studs, datsunparts.com or futofab.com

Re: How to Replace wheel studs.
Just emailed futofab for longer wheel studs. Did anyone try using M12 x 1.25 on front hubs. I will like to use them on my new setup.

these are the easiest to install, that should cover a thicker flange or small spacer.
There are very long ARP studs for the rear of a chevy that also can be used.
I have seen metric studs also used, not know the number.

just a touch bigger than stock at the Knurl and not too long at 1.85 except if you are using tuner nuts...you would have to open up the hole just a bit or use a "big press"....LOL.....

Re: How to Replace wheel studs.
The wheels have tapered nuts mounting?
You cannot use a shanked lug nut ? Pics ?
Ive used a 5 lb sledge , just holding it near the head and giving it lite taps, not raring back on it .
About 5-10 lite taps and it flys out

Re: How to Replace wheel studs.
I replaced my stock studs with some grade 8, 1 ¾ inch studs from Moser. The rears went in quite easily. By rotating the axle, there was a spot that had enough room behind the flange to fit the longer studs in, then used the nut and spacer method to tighten each one on. Didn't have to pull axle out at all. Already had the front hubs disassembled, so I pressed out the old ones and pressed in the new. The Moser part number is 8259, and they are $25 for 10 studs on Amazon. They are for Corvettes. That adds a few hp, doesn't it? Buying two 10 packs gives you 4 spares. After 4 of us do this, we could all send our spares to the 5th person, who could do it all for free...
