Guys - Please show me where I can find an LSD and disc equipped rear in the right width for $2K. I don't remember seeing prices anywhere near that low...TR

Hell for $1500 I could have a custom 8" ford rearend made with disc brakes and LSD with parts a plenty at any autoparts store.

Good point Alexi. I think it can be done for even less than $1500

$1100 is a damn good price for a 4.63 LSD! That gear set alone could command as much as $500 if it's in good shape. The issue is that most racers can't legally use a non-stock carrier so, although you can swap a ford or other LS axle into the roadster, racers can't. That's why I cringe when I see the really rare race parts on street driven cars. I really need another 4.11 gear set but they are hard to find.
Will, the 4.11 is the ticket for Auto-x. If it was legal, I'd run the 4.38 (I did run it until I found my 4.11 last year)

TR,
All we have to do is go to a rearend shop. Ford 8" are cheap, parts are cheap. The only real fabrication they would have to do is narrow the axles (done all the time) and drill the axles for the correct 4x114.3 stud spacing.

I know the parts are cheap, but I'd like to see a quote for parts, shortening and drilling for studs. I think the price adds up pretty quickly...

I believe a there was an older Mustangs that came with a solid rear with 4x4.5 lug pattern. Now its only 2/3.

The 4 lug mustangs that were 4x4.5 were the early body mustangs with the 6 cylinder. The diff is NOT a performance piece. I don't recall the designation, but it is smaller than an 8 inch unit. It would not survive with healthy power being put through it. Good try though!

The 4.11 LSbroken is out, the 3.9 is back in. At least I can drive it around town now. I'll find out what happend to the 4.11 at a later date.

Will,
The trans is stuck in 3rd again, and I think i am going to have to take the 4spd out of the 66, and put it in the 67.5. The problem is, I have to take out 2 motors, but I have no cherry picker

! I dont know how im going to pull this stunt.

When I was pulling my R16 regularly, I used a come-along and doubled up 2x4s in the garage rafters. Some angle iron over the top edges of the 2x4s and a chain over that to hook the come along to. It's not as smooth operating as a lift, but it got the job done and didn't cost us
anything as we already had the stuff hanging around. The angle came from an old bed frame. I don't remember how many times I pulled the engine/trans, but there was never a problem, and I did the pulling by myself.
You don't really need a cherry picker, as there are almost always alternatives.

I'll back up Bucky on that one. It is handy to have another guy there to roll the car back as the trans comes out though. And to get the motor off your foot!

I have come into another conclusion! My Dad thinks it might be because it is not moving, and all the gear oil is down. I also think that he is right because when we pushed it in gear for about 10-15 feet, I was able to shift it out, probably because the oil was moving inside??? And since the car has not moved that might be a cause??? So im guessing just a little pushing, and I might not have to pull the whole motor out. Do you think thats a possibility? That it is stuck in 3rd because the trans fluid is not circulating since it has not been moved????

The trans should shift regardless of the oil circulating. I know that sometimes a tranny can "mismess" and cause a stick. I personally think that something internally is "out" on your tranny. It is common for the syncros to go out of the 4spd, usually 2nd before others.
