Garm wrote:Why not just build a tube frame from scratch and fit a sectioned Roadster body to it afterward? That way, you could design something that would actually be driveable, and engineered with proper geometry, steering and suspension from the start.

Trying to modify a Roadster frame would present too many Gremlins. my $.02
I have done a little dreaming...I mean research......Auto Weld can do chassis to rails...lol....

if you can't beat 'em join 'em!

take an existing tube frame from Superformance or FFR and modify roadster body to fit. All of the looks of the Datsun with the performance of the kit cars

Funny enough, if you could do maybe 6 frames, it would be probably be worthwhile. Have Spriso drop in an SR20, and you have a rolling chassis kit.
So the concept is basically the same as the evolution from the AC Cobra to the 427 Shelby Cobra? I agree it would be fun, but you need someone with a real eye for proportion or it will get ugly fast. stretching the nose would give room for a rack and pinion with the tie rods going straight to the wheels, and with the wider rear, proportions would probably work. If you were going traditional, then an L-28 stroker, or else a LS-x gm motor for pure power and light weight. I'm partial to the Rover V8, but parts availability is more limited.
It's on the "win the lottery and do something silly" list, right after the Nash Metropolitan on a Roadster frame with a nasty U20 and an exhaust cut-out . I just want to come down the hill into Watkins Glen in a Metro turn the corner (without the usual Metro-tipping-over thing) pull the cable for the muffler bypass and scream it down Franklin Ave.

I'm actually working along similar lines. I'm going to design an independent front and rear suspension and custom frame for my 66 Roadster. Also thinking on doing a widebody in the rear with steel. Once I have the design made up in CAD it wouldn't be hard to adjust it for something like you want to do. I'm dropping a Ecotec LNF in mine though with an upgraded turbo for 455hp.
