Re: SoCal Solvang Caravan (Was THURSDAY now Friday early?)
There really is nothing like a group of Roadsters in formation! The engines start to resonate together and it sounds like a group of WWII aircraft (maybe that's why we were called the U20 Bombers). Not sure if that sound could be captured on a good video camera, but someone should try! Driving in a line of 8 or more can get difficult to keep together with different power outputs and gearing. It requires everyone being aware and anticipating hills and traffic/passing and being in agreement on the speed. We usually take some detours on the way, like a blast to crater lake on the way down to Shasta. Now on the fun roads it's a free for all, and some of us engage warp drive and have at it, but always let the others catch up... No Roadster left behind!

The problem is my FJ20 has a very angry sound at say 5K in third.Gregs672000 wrote:There really is nothing like a group of Roadsters in formation! The engines start to resonate together and it sounds like a group of WWII aircraft

That's 2500 RPM at 60 or under 3000 at 70.

Re: SoCal Solvang Caravan (Was THURSDAY now Friday early?)
I would LOVE to hear it! I almost bought one out of a pick-your-part in So CA back in the late 80's. Unfortunately I just couldn't justify the need for this unknown but really cool looking Nissan motor while in grad school and so far from home, but DAMN I wanted that motor! I went back a week later and it was gone.fj20spl311 wrote:The problem is my FJ20 has a very angry sound at say 5K in third.Gregs672000 wrote:There really is nothing like a group of Roadsters in formation! If I had any choice of swap, I would choose the FJ. Maybe the newer Nissan motors are "better" (I mean, what doesn't benefit from modern tech?), but the FJ is in my mind what the Roadster would have gotten had the line continued. I have a '68 on the side of the house that will someday/maybe/who knows become a project. I plan a turbo R16 for it, but if the right FJ came along I think I would jump.
I hope to go to Shasta this year, so if you're about we'll listen to her bark there!
