Re: tie rods options?
Okay, I thought I would revive this thread to see if anyone has a solution as I looked under my car and not sure I am happy with what I saw (torn boots, etc.). I haven't driven this car in 3 years, and my nephew had it for 2 years before that, so it's in pretty bad shape. So, I thought I might see about updating the suspension a bit.
So, to replace my tie rods with this solution, what would I need? I'm pretty clueless about suspensions, but this cheaper solution to OEM interest me.
Oh, I have a 1970 2000.
Any help? Thanks!

Re: tie rods options?
I'm assuming the 510 tierods have one RH thread and one LH thread, so if you use 2 inners there would be no way to adjust the length without removing one end or the other and rotating. Now if we are making up the threaded sections, then can use one LH and one RH thread, no problem.
I'm in for 3 or 4 sets of 3 (left/right and a center). Anyone else?
Looks like Left inner and Right outer are RH thread and different part #, and Right inner and Left outer LH thread and different part # (4 part # total)

Re: tie rods options?
Where did you order from? I checked on Autozone website for 1970 510, this is what I came up with:
Tie rod sleeve: ES458S $11.99
Tie rod end:
They list several different parts on their website (all with limited lifetime warranty):
ES487L (left outer) $16.99
ES483R (right outer) $16.99
ES486L (right inner) $12.99
ES489R (left inner) $12.99
And it looks like, if you want to replace rubber boots with urethane, you can get the boots on ebay for about $20 for a set of 6 (4 tie rod, 2 ball joint boots) from z-partshouse. FYI.

Re: tie rods options?
I love rockauto, good prices for parts if they have what you need. I think I will wait and see if what you ordered works out. If so, that is a great deal on tie rods. What about the center section? Any idea on that?

Re: tie rods options?
I wonder if something like this would work for the center rod: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1210082" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Another picture of it on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-45A2033-L ... 23+45A2033" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Amazon list the dimensions (not sure if this means pacakge dimensions, or length of actual rod) at 26.6".
This part is listed for a 1972 620 pickup.
If so, I also wonder if the 510 tie rod ends could attach to this rod (correct thread?) and would work for the roadster? Maybe we would have ot have it cut and rethreaded? Price is about $30 for this rod.
Just trying to help out so that when I do my suspension, we have some alternatives.

Re: tie rods options?
Got the tierods and adjuster. It's a go!! Stock 69 tierod is very close to 13.0", the Moog stuff will go as short as 12.5 and easily up to 13.5" or 14.0" with plenty of thread. May need to be creative on grease fittings, but that's easy.
I tried the new tierod nut on the stock center rod on the roadster, 510 part is bigger diameter, so these 510 ends won't work for the center without making/finding an adjuster.
Maybe the previously mentioned 620/720 if the taper etc is correct.

Re: tie rods options?
That's great news! Maybe someone can post this in the parts interchange so this info is easy to find?
Now we need to find out if 620 or 720 center link will work. I haven't come even close to working on my suspension, maybe by the end of summer, so hopefully someone is willing to give it a shot so we will all know if there are alternatives for the center link.

Re: tie rods options?
There was a guy on ebay last year sellin the tie rods and center link because he had new ones made with hiam joints on either end. I have pics and will post when i get home. I plan on having a shop fab me up the same thing for my 67 vintage race car project.

Re: tie rods options?
Should just need the center rod, use the 510 ends. If you were a VERY GOOD welder, you could cut the threaded adjuster in half and weld into a piece of proper size and strength steel tubing.
In theory, if you made a solid connector for the middle, now that the other 2 tierods are adjustable, it would work. Could use 2 RH threaded tierod ends, male or female and a fixed length rod.
