After checking the costs of renting a sandblaster and compressor I'm looking more at having someone else do the sandblasting and then I might as well have them powdercoat the frame. A buddy suggested I keep my original wheel and simply spruce them up with a powdercoat too. That appeals to me because I have always liked the original hubcaps. I'm getting quotes for the powdercoating so we will see what happens.

Another Florida member, Robert Auclair, might be replacing his stock wheels with Libres, if so, he has a cool set in grey/charcoal.

I'm thinking a light gray, which I think is the original color, would be better. Any suggestions as to other color choices. I plan to use the original chrome hubcaps.

Silver satin, not gloss, not flat.
Powdercoat is super durable on wheels. Then again, a super pita to remove.

Agree, satin silver, also called Argent. I have black wheels with stock hubcaps on the 69 right now, look awful.

Silver satin it is. Talked to my mechanic today and my parts have arrived. He will be doing some major rehab of the engine before we put it in. He will be changing gaskets, including the head gasket, water pump, timing chain, oil pump, alternator, and other parts I'm not recalling at this late hour. The Subaru alternator bracket and motor mounts from Spriso will be used along with the rented jig. Michael says the jigs are rented out now but might make a new one if it takes too long to get them back. I spent the day continuing to strip the frame of all tubes, plastic, and rubber so that it will be ready to powdercoat after the frame modifications. I found a place that will give me quotes for the sandblasting and powdercoating if I send pictures of the frame and wheels. When the engine is ready and the jig has arrived I will tow the frame to the mechanic so he can cut and weld the frame and temporarily install the engine. Then I will tow the frame and engine home to remove the engine and suspension parts. I will trailer the frame and wheels and some parts to the powdercoater. When I get it home I hope to rehab the front suspension with new parts and competition springs and add the Volvo calipers to the front. I might see about adding the RX7 back axle with disc brakes. Is anyone selling the RX7 axle already made up?

Some of this stuff looks huge in pics but when you see it in person its way smaller.

The '69 Teardrop front sidemarkers come immediately to mind! Looked huge in the pictures the seller sent. Those things are Tiiiinieeee.

From the pics the body doesnt look to bad. Paint the engine bay and see how well the canned paint matches. Spray touching up the body may result in a blotchy look. You could use a small brush to fill the nicks level. oops wrong thread

Spent the afternoon working under the body removing 43 years worth of grease, oil, and dirt. I plan to undercoat after I paint the engine compartment. I have lots of questions about undercoating that I detailed in the Tech section under Undercoating. Any help would be appreciated.

I happened to pull out a very old Rallye catalog where the author detailed things you should never do with your roadster. One of them was to never let junk build up inside the wheel well because it will rust out in the nooks and crannies. Mine looked real bad and I had rust.

That doesn't look like too much rust to me, is this before or after cleaning?
