I do not mean to ruffle any feathers here, but this is not about a roadster. Years ago when the Miata first came out, I saw one up in Kitchener, Ontario. The license plate? JAP MGB.

Recently, I was checking out the house a couple of friends just bought in London and there was a set of 1968 Ontario plates in the basement. i mentioned that they would look nice on my 1600 and my buddy gave them to me.

I wanted to run the same plate that was on the Ferrari from Ferris Buehler's Day off. NRVOUS.
big surprise...it was taken.

I really wanted to run a plate from Japan, but the state of PA will not let you do that (even if you keep the plate that should be on the car inside the car;incase you get pulled over. NOTE: if you live in NC, i'm almost positive you can do this; Quite a few of my 02 friends do it and they keep things on the up and up).

I think when it comes time, i'm just going to have to go the lame route and get one of the state of PA's 'lovely' classic plates (white w/light purple esque) writing...
At least then i won't have to pay every year for registration.

I've been wanting to do this plate on one of my Datsuns for a long time, I just got it a few weeks ago.

Anyone that has been around Datsuns has heard "the joke" at least 50 times and probably 10 different versions of it.

Just Saturday night, an elderly lady tried to tell me the joke and got it all mixed up. LOL

Agree !
Excellent catch.

Love that 1200 to the right, too. First car I ever went 90mph in. It was grass green.

Stupid kids that we were to go that much faster than our driving skill, public streets, on an all-stock car with its little 12" wheels with bias ply tires. My friend's Dad owned a Datsun dealership and my friend used "dealer" tags which weren't listed to him. Somehow this made it easier to speed with impunity.

I remember the car was a little loose up there, swaying just a bit with minor steering corrections. Trying to remember if this too was the first time I had witnessed the phenomenon of "burying the needle" on the speedometer.

Thanks Pete & Paul,

Paul, I love the old 1200 too. About a year ago, I had it out on our test track at work at just over 80mph. I think it had at least 5 mph left in it, if I would have keep the pedal down another minute or two (maybe 5min). LOL.. Ours is an automatic, so it may be a little slower. It really didn't feel to bad considering its a 42 year old Datsun. And, I had the original 12" tires on it when I did that. I wouldn't want to do it on the public roads however!

My good friend Carl raced a 1200 for years. He took me around SIR (Seattle International Raceway back in the day, now PIR) on a victory lap and that was the first time I understood just how sticky racing slicks were... wow. It was a cheap race car and he did well with it. He eventually moved on to an RX7, then a shifter cart, a crash in the cart with a resulting concussion, then a spec Miata that went into the wall in the rain a few years back... and that was the end of that...
