I grew up in the 80's, so I definitely get that reference! There are some pics on pages 7 & 8 of this thread, but here's one that shows the front timing cover better.

the timing cover looks like it was chromed.... What is wit the Master Lock on the engine lift chain ?
Are you going with a tank mounted fuel pump , I noticed the block off plate ,and the 12 point trans mount bolts .

Ken did such an amazing polishing job on the timing cover. It looks like a mirror. And boy, was it ugly before!
Here is a before picture. Just looking at it makes we want to get a tetanus booster shot.
I always use padlocks on engine hoist chains. Makes hookup, adjustments, and breakdown super fast and easy. Never had one fail, even on big block V8s with a trans attached. Bought a pack that are all keyed the same, and it is a breeze.
I have an external electric fuel pump that I'll be mounting to the frame back near the tank. This was a tip from Dave Premo. He has the same setup on his car.
Stainless fuel pump block off plate is from Jim at DatsunRestorationProducts.com. I use the 12 point stainless ARP fasteners a lot. They are overkill strong, won't rust, and I think they look bitchin'.

Erik, do you know anything about the oil pressure sender you're using? I don't recognize that one, and I've tried a 240z version (wrong) as well as another that looked exactly like what I have but didn't work well. Metal polishing job is amazing... wow.

Greg,
I am in the process of converting my stock mechanical oil pressure gauge (with the metal line that runs under the dash and drips hot oil on your foot) to an aftermarket electric one. That sender is the one that came with the new gauge. I had to use a small adapter, since the block has the very odd 1/8 British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT), and all senders seem to be 1/8 NPT.

How are you setting up the fuel pump , may I ask ? That method would preclude any vapor blocks which caused by the old mechanical pump- correct?

Your photo showing the fan is off. Never have I seen a 4bladed plastic fan on one of these engines which are prone to overheating.
As luck would have it, I have a Volvo 6(?) blade fan which matches the current datsun 6 (?) blade fan on my 1969 SPL
. Mounted w/o the clutch mechanism but the solid spacer behind the fan blade. It worrrring the whole time the cars running.

Not sure what you mean. The 4 blade fan was standard on the earlier cars, first as a two piece metal fan, then as a plastic one. Many cars are running the 4 blade setup and have no cooling issues. The later fan is a 7 blade, and is noisy as hell. Never heard of the Volvo conversion. Is it quiet? Sounds like a good setup, though, since you eliminated the clutch.

Dann over at Rallye sells a plastic 4 blade, but mentions the shroud on an early 1600 is too small. Since you have a 1970 you must be ok?

Must be OK. I pulled this 4 blade fan off my running 1970 parts car. Someone must have swapped them out at some point. It ran fine on that car, and my fan shroud is identical. Maybe the early cars with the metal fan won't fit the plastic one? I'm sure there are experts here who know...

My 2 ‘69 and ‘70 have/had the 7 blade plastic fans. The old Volvo fan I pulled from a box of spare parts is a direct replacement. Go figure
