Yes I do like your seats! My Subaru seats are kind of in the same boat as you except that my side bolsters are as high as the deck height, so I too will need to be taller than the deck. I may need to rethink my seats before I go past the point of no return with these STI seats. With you cutting off the space behind the seats it ties in real well. Your interior in coming along VERY nicely!

You're correct. Moving the back deck closer helps the look of the seats. It looked odd without the deck closer. It looked even worse with the high seat backs and the far away back deck. Of course, if you're keeping the convertible top, which I think sits higher when down than the back deck, seats that stick up wont look odd.

I know it's been a long time since my last post. Almost 3 years. I haven't given up on my project. It's still going. A few other things have come up which caused me to get sidetracked. A few years back, about the same time I slowed on my roadster project, a EF1 tornado came through and tore up my woodshop on the family farm. My woodshop use to be an old dairy that was 30' x 12'. It had no insulation. Windows from 1930. No heat or air conditioning. Needless to say, it was great to have a place to have a woodshop, but not the most comfortable place to work during the winter or summer. When the tornado knocked a wall down, it gave me the excuse to renovate the old dairy. Two years later, I have doubled the footprint, raised the ceiling 2 feet, insulated, replaced the windows, redid the wiring, and added heating and air-conditioning. It's a very nice woodshop now, but it took me away from the Datsun project.

I've still been working here and there on the car. I've completed my custom brake and clutch line setup. I also saw a picture of a roadster that gave me direction for the final look of my car. I've made a few custom touches that was going to make the car unique but this final change was going to make the car exactly what I wanted. I know the purists will not approve, but I was never a fan of the rear tires tucked up inside the body of the car, so I got some fiberglass fender flares, some wheel spacers for the rear wheels, and cut the sheet metal of the car. I also purchase a front air damn and side skirts.

Today or tomorrow, it's raining today, the car body will go off to the painter to have it's final body work and paint. I big step for me and the project.

Flares look good. Not a fan of the rear tail lights but it is your car. What color are you getting it painted?

Just went through the entire thread to see the whole project... quite a lot or customization and rust repair. You've got some skills man!

I wasnt sure how I felt about the taillights, but I think they flow well with the lines, and yea the purists might not like em, but then the rest of the car is your own creation so why not! I like the rear flares too, are they front flares welded to the rear that you spoke about doing early on in the project?

also, do you still have those 0.60 over U20 pistons? they were still good werent they? I might want them

I used my oscillating tool for removing the sound deadener. It was pretty fast and pretty much dust free. I used it on the floors, the hood, and parts of the front fenders and parts of underneath.

No. the flares are fiberglass that will be painted the color of the wheels and bolted to the body.

I think I remember using a heat gun on the coating and scraping it off before I had it blasted. But I'd guess yes, it will take it off.

It rained all day today, so it'll be going to the paint shop tomorrow or Sunday. I'll send pictures of the progress.

While the body’s off at paint, I’m now planning on working on the exhaust. Now it’s time to search the forum the right muffler and setup for me. Any suggestions out there? I’m running a stock 1600 and I’m looking for a good sound out the tip. I don’t want it quiet but also not super loud and obnoxious. Anyway suggestions are welcome. Thanks

All sorts of options: Borla, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, with resonator, without resonator, twin-tip, single-tip, megaphone, etc, etc. Just search on exhaust, sound, and/or muffler. I just did this last week, and found quite a bit. You can also search YouTube on Datsun roadster exhaust. Again, quite a number.
