You from Jersey? What Exit? :D
Most of where I work looks like (and some is in) the opening credits of "The Sopranos", but go 5 miles west and it's a different world. I do understand, if you pass through north to south on 95, as many people do, all you see is the ugly or boring parts.

Finishing the trip at Solvang would be absolutely perfect. I think Scott has some nasty weather today.

I'm on the Outer Banks now (Frisco, NC to be exact), and I'll be hanging out here through Thanksgiving. It's been raining for the past couple of days; I'm pretty sure this is the wettest continuous period of the trip so far. I found a couple more leaks that I took care of with a little silicone here and there, and I was actually kind of impressed that the car didn't fill with water when I had to push through about a 10" deep section of flooding across the road once. I'm hoping to get the post for Virginia and West VA up tomorrow sometime, then probably North Carolina shortly after that.

Let's see...I am definitely heading into Florida, and Daytona Beach was an intended stop, so it'd be great to hook up with the roadster guys there. Otherwise, I'm just sort of meandering down the coast from here; hitting Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Savannah, and anything else that looks interesting.

I could probably do a trip like this every year for the next 10 years and still not see all the good stuff that's out here. It's been pretty amazing. :)

Well, You could just start writing travel books, Photos are great, and the Blog is really good reading. The trick would be getting PAID to drive around the country in an old car taking photos and finding out cool stuff.

HEY SCOTT you'd better get over the bridge while you can, at Oregon Inlet. State highway folks today are checking for storm damage, and have established some emergency ferryboat landings at both ends just in case they find something.

It's just scouring under the footers. Has happened before and probably will again. We would already have a new bridge but the lawsuits from the groups that want to rid the island of humans continue to delay the project. The NCdot are doing to preliminary work now and if all goes well, new bridge in less than five years.

Scott doesn't need to wait as he left the island earlier today. His adventure continues...

Like Dave said, I've departed the Outer Banks as of this afternoon (and had a great and relaxing Thanksgiving out there thanks to Dave and his generosity.) I skipped the bridges altogether and did the Hattaras-Okracoke ferry and then the Okracoke-Cedar Island ferry. I'm in New Bern tonight; deciding where to go tomorrow.

On a somewhat geekier note, the trip mileage has exceeded the circumference of the planet by about 40 miles as of this afternoon. I'll top 25,000 miles sometime tomorrow.

25,000 miles !!! Mercy !!

Write down your GPS coordinates when the magic moment comes.
We can plot it on a map and commemorate.

The little ferryboats between Hatteras and Ocracoke always seem like a bunch of plywood on barrels with a motor underneath.

We haven't been on the big ferryboats at the south end of Ocracoke but they look a lot more substantial, especially for the two hour voyage to the mainland.

Did you catch a meal at Howard's Pub? The house we rent is across from the owner, Warner's, and we always wished we had that kind of lifestyle.

The 25,000 mile mark came at 34°37'8.17"N, 77°29'2.62"W, right near Camp Lejeune. En route to Charleston now...

Otherwise unremarkable piece of pavement, now a historic POI

Congratulations, that's a very cool moment.
