Started some work today on my 1967 SRL311 #529.

A California car that along the way was fitted with a R16 motor. Well, the time has come to start converting her back to U20/5spd power. Stated prepping on Friday evening, and pulled the R16 today at my home. All went well, but found some CRAZY PO modifications to the rear springs ...urgh...

U20 is at the machine shop under going a rebuild and the 5spd transmission is ready to pick-up at the Transmission shop.

The car is currently Red with a Tan interior and top. The original color was Thunder Black.

I finally installed my door weather stripping. It was pretty easy.
Also installed my replacement fuse box. My over-heating headlamp fuse issue is gone/ Thanks Fossil!
I noticed all the fuses fit much tighter now.

That looks like what we call a "helper" spring.
Usually fitted to pickups etc to avoid scraping the rear when loaded up.

Secured two new tires (discounted) for my 1500 roadster. Waiting for a while to hopefully find several more discounted units. Otherwise will invest in two full price tires (@$175 each)

Going for the wide whitewalls.

Wow...Looks similar to a kit used on a Jeep.

@dcooke
personally I LOVE the Miata seats over the roadster - especially for the passenger - more lumbar support

Dan, why don't you use that early 1600 engine in your white 1500?

Can you give specifics? I'd like to see if it might work for my engine. Thanks.
I bought the set DatsunParts, com sells "#2208 Smog Plug Inserts." Before that I had some square headed plugs. The problem with the square headed plugs is they don't fill the hole, they just cap the top of it. So as air is pushed out you exhaust port a whistle sound is made. My sounded like a chirp. Especially noticeable at idle.

You can see in the photo how much longer the plugs should be. That missing section on the square plugs is what makes the noise due to air turbulents. Dave Premo explained all of this to me at Solvang.
Smog Plug.JPG

The DatsunParts plugs fill the hole completely and I only hear the engine now. The chirp is completely gone.
If you plan on going this route, find yourself a 14mm 1.5 pitch grade 8 bolt. You need it to chase the threads and clean them up before installing the new plugs.

To remove the square headed plugs use a 3/8" socket. Follow svwilber's instructions:
http://www.311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... ve#p149214

All I can say is it well worth the money.
So I replaced my square-headed inserts with Dean's plugs and they work as advertised. However, I noticed that two screws bottom out too early and stick out with about 1/4" too high above the hole. You can actually see some of the threads exposed above the hole. The other two sit flushed to the surface inside the holes as they should. I pulled them all out to compare lengths and they were identical. But when I installed them all, the same two holes appear to be shallower preventing the plugs to sit flush and appear higher than the other two. The functionality does not seem to be affected. Just looks aesthetically uneven to me. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rudy

Carbon build-up on the bottom threads preventing the plugs from seating? You could run a thread chaser - then vacuum out all the droppings, before reseating - or live with it....
