Bow seems to be very close to same curve as windshield frame.
But
Dang roll bar interfers with dropping the frame all the way down. I guess solution will be to undo the nuts holding the soft top to the car when top is down...and not be in a panic when ptutting the top up.

What badging goes onthe LHS beside the licence plate?

There should be a "2000" badge and a "Datsun" badge below it to the left of the plate. Nothing below the plate, except a light on the rear bumper.
Ignore the "redesigned license plate insert" as I believe it's just identifying how the metal was stamped compared to the earlier models.

Thanks Greg ... there are a few other items on the list, but I can add it to the wish list.

Yup ... semi-stranded with the tranny popping out of second all by itself. (More details on ... "Has your stock roadster ever left you stranded" thread)

Ross, thank your bride for taking my call on a Sunday and allowing you to confirm the best course of action was a tow home.

Unfortunatley, my mechanic is away for the next week, and he stays way far away from transmission work...but he had a couple of suggestions, so I'll get on it Monday. Diagnostics suggested is to drain the tranny oil & check for metal bits. I'll probably do that myself tomorrow ... then I'll know better where to take the car next. Pretty bummed out ... but as I said to my wife...the car is almost as old as I am, and I know what kind of shape I'm in ... so this kind of thing can't surprise me. If I'm going to go out and play, there may be injuries.

These things happen. Look at it as a bonding opportunity for you and the car as you bring it back to the street, once again repaired! Can't have success without adversity, eh, so embrace it all. You'll be having fun stuff to report... or at least interesting for the fans on the sidelines cheering you on (that's us...).

This weekend (pre football trance) I will take time to figure out and choose a path. From the 20,000 foot level I feel like it will be 1) work extra hard at the day job to make extra to cut the cheques 2) work on it all myself with help as I can get it ...or ... 3) combo of 1 & 2

I hear Ya! I have always been on a budget with my car, and have come to understand that 1) I can do more than I realized and can learn a lot, 2) a man has to know his limitations, and 3) do what you're good at, but keep expanding that knowledge so you have fewer limitations. So, in this case, since transmissions have always intimidated me, I would do all the work to pull the unit, but would send the trans out (though I might try one with my current state of experience and availability to guidance). If I can pick up a few extra shifts doing what I'm good at to help pay for someone else to do what they are good at, that's usually a good way to go. Add in the knowledge of this awesome group of people and it will all come out fine. You're not alone when you own a Datsun Roadster.

BTW, I and others HIGHLY recommend Swepco gear oil in that trans. Do a search on this site to find the specific one, or I may go look if I'm in the garage (not lazy, just had surgery!).

Yep, it's the budget, and the self-imposed deadline of the elder daughter's wedding...of the second weekend in May. This year. The ceremony and reception are about an hour and a half away via some pretty fun roads. Was kinda hoping to take the mother of the bride in the roadster.

I can probably do the work and follow instructions pretty well, but I don't have a great place to do that kind of work. A carport in the winter laying under a car for a couple days is not really my idea of fun ... and the nice weather is when ... yup ... I'd like to be in the car not under it.

Thanks for your encouragement ... and I hope to hear soon that your ticker lets you get back into your garage to look for the Swepco gear oil for me.

This week I made the decision to put the car on blocks until I have the cash to get the tranny and a few other things done correctly...kind of tough especially when it's 17 C & sunny out there.

But on the bright side, the inventory of my spare parts is done along with pictures, so the classifieds postings will begin!

dont tell me the roadsters still on blocks ? ITS SPRING/SUMMER TIME NOW ??
