Thanks for the Info Peter.
I have a set of nice 6 inch speakers, it doesn't seem like I'd be able to install them in the bottom hole,
maybe in the middle, but I want to see if I can fit them without cutting into the sheetmetal.

Roman,
I have only milled with a dremel about 2 mm of material on the 4 corners.
Someone told me that all the holes have the same diameter.
And this is a quality USA brand speaker.

Linda, I know there are conversions for old AM table radios to add Bluetooth.
I'll look into it!

do you not have a lot of noise from the old radio?
Mine whistle from the dynamo, and thick from the ignition. and I have a already filter between the + line.
That's the reason I want a modern classic radio.

AM radio doesn't have to sound bad.
If you have noise, check your antenna for good ground. Also you can add a noise suppressor to the alternator, and/or resistor spark plugs and wires.

What's involved?

This is exactly what I would like to do. Keep the AM radio faceplate, hopefully keep the volume knob functional, but run bluetooth from my phone. Or keep an older bluetooth device I have installed permanently?
Pretty far down on my list at the moment, but I want it.

Thinking of something like this -

I bought myself a Retrosound zuma, and used the old faceplate with chrome knobs, the Bluetooth option is expansive but shifty gave a good alternative.

After sifting through this thread I thought I would share my solution.
I was only needing a simple solution for cell phone or Ipod music. The best I could find was the motorcycle speakers mentioned here:
http://www.sharkmotorcycleaudio.com/c=M ... ARLEY.html
That was a bit pricy for me so I ended up going with the Pyle version and boy am I glad I did. Incredible sound in a tiny little package and more than half the price. Both speakers fit under my dash and with where I mounted the little amp I even get volume control.
Highly recommend!

I actually had been considering the Shark Audio system. I have a positive ground electrical system (SPL310 1500). I like this type of motorcycle set-up because it would allow me to completely isolate the music system from the positive grounding system of the car.
Any Pic of how you mounted the speakers/amp?
Thanks

Here are a few pics of the setup i put in my 1500. I am very pleased with the sound. Its got volume and decent range for 4" speakers (its all about that enclosure) the biggest surprise to me was how incredible the stereo imaging sounds. sitting in the car with engine off, at low to medium volumes its akin to wearing headphones. Was not expecting such good stereo sound.
System is also plenty loud, even on the freeway the sound reaches your ears easily.
Ok so what i used was a boss 2 channel amplifier, and a milbrec rca bluetooth adapter. Running a pair of 4" speakers installed in some "versa pods" jeep speaker enclosures. i also added a usb charge port that is hidden under the dash. Alright on with the pics, if anyone has questions or wants more details im happy to share.
boss amp and bluetooth adapter.
speakers, velcroed to package tray/wheel well
amp tucked away with battery under 3rd seat
There you have it! Just in time for summer too.

We are installing when we get to the stage , blue tooth speakers in a box that can be moved from trunk to rear shelf behind seats , no modifications requires to car other then to get a blue tooth signal from radio to speakers , or none if you just want to use smart phone ,ipad,iPod or other MP3 device

For a cheap way to add Bluetooth audio to an existing system with an aux input, you can use one of these:
image.jpeg
Just plug it into a USB charger and plug your aux cable into it. It will sync with your phone or other device and you won't have to have to plug a cable into your phone.
You can get one for a couple of bucks on eBay.
For example, one of several current listings:

Here is a handy way to get add a 12v socket or some USB charging ports:

I found it at Walmart. There are a few different versions. I like it because it is totally enclosed and surface mount. If you don't want to drill holes, you can use Velcro, double sided tape or magnets to mount.
I suggest hiding one up under the dash and wiring it with a fuse to power that is live only when the key is in. You can then hide unsightly wires and upgrade your older audio system to Bluetooth without having to upgrade your receiver or amp.

So, no aux inpit on the old AM radio, right? So how would this gadget work?
