Check for 12V at the reverse switch in the transmission.
It comes from the W fuse.
When in reverse and ignition switch in the ON position, the reverse switch extends 12V to the reverse lamp which should ground at the rear chassis rail.

Nice weather, but still too muddy to get my car through my yard and on the driveway. So I spent an hour or two fixing my passenger inside door handle that wouldn't open the door. I had installed the door locks a year or two ago, but one was backwards and didn't allow enough movement to open it.

I also managed to get one whole postie installed, what an ordeal! In the end I used sewing thread to guide the washers and nut to the hole, then threaded in the postie.

Big thanks go to pebbles for supplying me with these posties and dash twisties.

Yes, that particular postie is a right pain as are the two above the instrument on top of the dash pad.
I have to remove my front 1/4 windows to get the roll up installed so i will have to remember to instal the postie then.

More cutting and pasting on the interior today: -
Image
Centre console glove box lid.

Image
Completed glove box with a one piece cover on the box.

Image
Joining seam at the centre rear panel.
It looks better in the flesh and I'm happy with it.
Trying to avoid using a sewing machine, I cringe at the very thought

Image
Finished item.
After the adhesive cures I will line the 'box with some black felt to replace what the factory originally fitted.

Thanks, that is the plan!
The original padding on the lid was really sad and I wasn't sure how thick the new should be.
I settled for 3 thicknesses of foam which resulted in no more than a 15mm cushion.
Feels just right :)
I have the "waist moulding" and 2 "A" pillar vinyls to do yet and that will be it.
The waist moulding is that U shaped trim that finishes off the rear cabin top edge, by the twisties and posties.
I will have to get my trimmer to do the vertical rear parcel shelf vinyl and the rear wheel arch vinyl.
Both require stitching to be correct and I don't stitch :smt018

I just bought a Gunson Colortune to dial in my SU's once I wake her up from her winter slumber.

Hey Dan, thanks for the sewing thread tip for the posties by the vent windows. Me and my fat fingers have been dropping washers and nuts all night into the bottom of the door, off to the fabric store tomorrow! Paul

Paul, just make sure the thread is tied off tightly and it should only take a few minutes of fiddling to get it lined up and screwed in. I had a heavy needle leftover from leatherwork to guide the thread down and through the door. I also had it wrapped around the window crank, and once the nut threaded on, the sewing thread was easy enough to break and pull away. Took me less than 10 minutes to do the second postie today, and a heck of a lot less swearing.

I have done some more vinyl interior over the past couple of days: -

Image

Image
Centre console glove box and lid.

Image
New black felt liner for the box.

Image
Horse shoe shape vinyl for the cabin waist trim.
Image
I bonded one edge at at time, carefully folding the vinyl over the edge and pressing it firmly onto adhesive applied inside the rear channel.
With plenty of overlap, I'm hoping there wont be any creeping going on when the vinyl gets hot in the summer.
Image
Finished vinyl covering on the waist trim.
Lots of screw holes and such to be opened up but I'll leave that for a day or three whilst the adhesive cures.

That was fun, getting the vinyl to adopt the curves and flats
However that's what the nice warm Australian sun is for :)

Now that I have just about finished all the vinyl panels, I feel I have got the hang of it all

Resurrected it from a long cold winter. Totally anti-climatic. Took off the cover, turned the key pulled the choke and it started in about 15 seconds. Not too bad for sitting 4 months. Went for a short ride, about 15 miles, all is well. Time for maintenance and cleaning, off to Hershey in 3 weeks.

I had a lot to do this weekend. I missed the SoCalROC BBQ due to Roadster workload.

1. Finished installing the vinyl
2. Finished installing the door panels
3. Had new windshield reinstalled (2nd time) but with Stainless trim I picked up from Stan many months ago. The 1st 2 installers could not install the trim.
4. Window weather strip and vertical channel install

Left to do:
1. Install Rear bumper
2. Rejet Solexes
3. Install new plug wires
4. Install soft top
5. Change cast iron elbow out for aluminum one
6. Trunk weather stripping

I finalized the install of the RX7 LSD, getting creative on how to lock up the wheels so I could torque a nut 100ftlbs after replacing a seal... She's back on four feet, but waiting for emulsion tube mods and a few other items to be drivable. I hope to jet it, mess with the timing and vac advance on the Megajolt, and clean up some leaks soon. Progress!

PROGRESS! That's what we like :)

I have started to bond the bottom windshield seal to the lower frame rail: -

Once the rubber is well and truly stuck on the frame I will go around the glass with a sealant to weatherproof it all.
