New to Roadsters, but long time 240 collector.

Post by NWZFAN »

Just "inherited" a 1967 (short windshield) 1600. I'm a long time 240Z nut, but new to the Roadster thing. I have several questions:

1. What is the proper fuel filter and placement?
2. Seems that the right battery is a Group 53, but it has a Group 51 in it now. The tie down bracket doesn't seem to fit right on that one. Is the 53 lower profile?
3. Does anyone have a template for the front bumper brackets? Mine are bent and I'd like to straighten them.

Thanks for any help. I'm sure I'll be on this site plenty.

Welcome! You need to place your location in your profile. And of course we need pictures!
There is a glass bowl assembly for the Fuel filter, it mounts in the engine compartment at the front of the passenger fender, on the Radiator brace, beside the radiator.
It looks like this: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/Datsun311 ... fault.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The online parts guide, and the tech wiki are invaluable sources of information. There is now a direct link at the top of the page to the tech wiki.

I'm not sure of the battery group that is correct, but I know several use the group 51, I think Group 24 is another that works.
The brackets pop up on e-bay, and several of the vendors carry them as well, Ross at Sports Imports for sure.

Welcome! Here is some info that may help:

1. the OEM filter was a glass sediment bowl filter located on the radiator support bracket on the r/f inner fender.

2. Yes, the correct group 53 battery is shorter by about 3/4" or so. They are getting problematic to find - the 51 is easy to come by.

3. if you check the vendor's websites, you can see photos of unbent brackets. I don't know anyone with a template.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I can see this group is going to be fun and helpful. I will work on getting my profile completed and add some pictures. I just towed the car home last Saturday, so I think I'm doing good for so few days with it. It did fire up on Sunday, roughly. I drained the gas tank last night and added fresh fuel. Cap and points look newer, installed new plug wires that came with the car, cleaned the plugs and added 20wt oil to the SUs. Once I figure out if I have the right plugs and what the gap should be, I'll fire it up again and see how she runs.

Stay tuned and thanks again/ Sorry about the lack of mental spellcheck on the "Raodster" in the subject line.

Thanks. I wanted to do it, but could not figure out how to do it. I am excited to continue my rebuild project. Hopefully, I'll take her for a short trip around the block this weekend, if it will.

Look just below the "preview/submit/save draft/cancel" buttons at the bottom of the dialog box when you hit "post Reply"
You'll see a box to the right of "Filename" Hit the "browse" button, select the file you want, and then select "Add the file".
You can do a few attachements at a time.
Preview and submit, or just submit and you are Done!

Pictures of my 240Zs. I'm down to two remaining. I drive them daily to work, which is 25 miles one way. Will post pictures of the Roadster when I get some better shots of the entire car outside (if it ever quits raining here).

Thank you. The picture kind of washes out the color on the yellow car. I do have some Roadster questions and will start a new post.

Thanks again.

Welcome!
I spotted a green 240 with Washington plates up here in the Vancouver area a few months ago.

Mine hasn't left Washington, since I've owned it. Vanity plates read SERIES1. :o)
