Like a hole in the head......

Post by datsunrides »

I needed another vehicle. :smt075 Well, actually I have been looking for an automatic 620 for my wife for a little while now, and ended up talking to the owner of this 521 located in Sonora.

What got my interest was he had pics of his other 521 (this was a "parts" truck for the PO) and it was an automatic. Now, to the best of my knowledge, there was no such beast. So, evidently the guy that had it before him converted it himself. Well, to shorten the story, the guy had removed the auto from his truck and put a stick in there. That meant he had all the stuff for the conversion sitting in his garage and was more than happy to include it with the sale! :D So, I got a pretty straight, mostly complete 521 with very minimal rust and all the stuff to do a bolt in automatic swap for the wife so she can sport it. Doesn't hurt I got it for a tad over a song! She's actually already starting to track down stuff for it. I am going to try and get her to do her own build thread on Ratsun or maybe JNC.

Way to get the wife involved, and with a project you can get into as well!
Brilliant!

Looks to be a very nice "Parts Truck".
Gotta love the 521s. 8)

The wife is the one that wanted it, I just facilitated it! I have enough of my "own" projects to work on. This one will primarily be her doing. I'll do the heavy mechanical work, the cosmetic is up to her! She'll either buck up and work hard, in which case I'll get more involved, or ????

I keep looking at this:

Though, the guy bumped it up from $1500 to $2000 now as I think I saw it on eBay now...

Great writeup X2 - I really enjoyed it. And if you can cut, fit and weld a steering column that's true - you are the man!

Thanks guys. The joys of engine swapping are slowing down the progress. Parts bin engineering means very little fabrication, but a whole lot of figuring what will work. The main problem is the engine/trans interface. I have it sorted, just need to get the parts here. Hopefully I can get it running before Thanksgiving.

Mark, hope the job situation changes for you soon but at least you are able to bond with the new addition when it needs you the most! Is "Christine" still living in the garage also??

Hey Kent. I actually went back to work last week. Have enough to get me to at least January right now. Nope, Christine is gone. Sold it last year.
