The car has been in storage so long that I'm forgetting some things.
I checked both my manuals, but neither had a clear picture of the driveshaft at the transmission-end.
After the engine and tranny were rebuilt and dropped back in the car, I connected the main driveshaft to the diff, but did not connect it to the tranny. The "missing piece" (between the tranny and shaft) must accept the splined-end of the shaft, but, coming out of the transmission there is a large threaded stud. There's also a certain distance between the two: about 6 inches.
I'm worried that this is not right, as I seem to remember a flange-fitting at the end of the transmission and not a threaded fitting.
Is what I have correct?
I've lost this piece and must find another.

You must be talkimg about a 2 liter as the driveshaft is two pieces. You are missing the front piece. I will find a picture so you know what it looks like. That kind of blows but maybe someone will come through for you.

to the transmission tail; but, at this point, all I have is a large threaded stud coming out of the tranny. I'm guessing that some type of plate to accept the four bolts from piece 24,25 spins on to this. Is this right?

Yes, there should be a flanged plate with four bolt holes that the piece with the sleeved spline bolts to and then the rear drive shaft slides into that.
