Steering Questions

Post by n51hj »

I am also reinstalling the front steering and suspension on my '68 and I have two questions.
What is the steering box supposed to be filled with? Grease or some kind of heavy oil?
Where can I get replacement boots for the tie-rod ends? Someone mentioned urethane. Where can I get those? Who's got the best deal on OEM?

Steve,
the steering box uses 90wt gear oil. The boots you might be able to get from Nissan, or one of the venders might happen to have them.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Dean-Fairlady Products has the complete set of urethane boots for the front suspension.

Steve

I bought mine from Dean and they look good. I just haven't had a chance to put them on yet. If you are installing/have installed new balljoints, I'd say put the urethane boots on those as well to protect your investment. I put NOS front end parts on my Beast about 10 years ago, and the original rubber boots have all but fallen apart on most.
Just another Roadster Winter Project I need to get to ..........

Happy Wrenching
