Jimmy's Car Show and Picnic San Francisco - Oct 16th 2010

Post by katman »

San Francisco Golden Gate Park, October 16th, 2010 - a Saturday!

Jimmy's 22nd Annual Old Car Show and Picnic will be on a Saturday this year! Usually was on a Sunday in October. Was cancelled by the Parks Dept. Director, but Jimmy prevailed and convinced them to allow the show to continue again this year. However, the rules were tightened. No food vendors allowed, so bring your own food and drinks. There are plenty of stores outside the park if you forget to bring food (a 6 block walk). Over 500 old cars every year, lots of fun.

Cars begin showing up at 7am, busiest time about 8:30 am. If you arrive at 9 it gets tough to find a way in with your car to a favorite spot. Annie and I will try to reserve a Datsun area midway thru Speedway Meadow, between the BBQ pits and the restroom bldg.
Entry fee is $40, goes to charity. In the past, we've had from a few Datsuns to a dozen. Please come!

Hi Fred,

I'm sorry to say I cant make it this year. This is one of the best car shows I've ever been to.

We need to see about doing a fun run before winter comes with its 65 degree days. Any thoughts?

Another couple and ourselves have been to that park, and we all commented how it would be a great place to bring the Datsuns. Who knew an old car show had the same idea for many years.

I think I'll order a couple shirts or something off their website in support.

Discussion of this show makes me ask the question:
What ever became of Daniel Neumann, the "mad scientist"???

I was at the Blue Angels air show last Sunday. We found a spot to stand behind a bench at a pier's edge over the bay. Out of the hundred thousand or so people watching, the family on the bench just happens to be Eric Armstrong and family.

He told me Daniel Neuman and Irene are doing fine. They have a child now (I think a daughter), and moved to a new home in Alameda. Think Eric said Daniel lost his job at SFSU. He believes he still has his roadster. Eric still has his, but doesn't get out at all with it, busy with two young kids and a demanding job.

Me and Annie plan to be at Jimmy's show around 8 am. The entrance is off JFK Drive, across from Lloyd Lake. Take Park Presidio from the North, or 19th Ave from the South, they connect to Crossover Drive. Take Crossover going west a block down and turn left to Transverse Drive, one block up is JFK, the show is just right of there. Just follow all the old cars.

Remember - it's free to walk in, but $40 to drive in. Bring food and drink. See you there!

Alvin, that shot of Eddie's car with the clouds and fog in the background is great.
