Saturday at the track we parked towards the back of the complex on a hill in the shade above thunder alley--very appropriately named! We all spent time hanging out with various parts of the Roadster group, watching the races, checking out all the British cars in the corrals, talking cars and generally having a great time. We had 7 or 8 Roadsters and a Silvia at this point.
Sunday was the The Datsun/Nissan marquee day. There were a bunch of 350Zs, a couple 370zs, the local Z club was there with their trailer queens and we had well over a dozen Roadsters-three quarters of which were registered with the DD club! Kurt had his Silvia were there as well, stumping person after person who tried to figure out what is was.
There were awards won by some of the Dairyland Datsun registered cars as well.
Blake Neubauer from Carmel, IN won best Roadster of the show (MidOhio concourse)
and Larry Blaszczak from Indianapolis won third in the same category (same concourse). Both of these cars were restored by Les Cannady in CA. I got a plaque for "Diamond in the Rough" from the local Z club's judging and I got second in farthest drive.
All three nights we had a BBQ at Paul and Kathy Kort's house. Impromptu tech sessions, great food, new friends and a 64 Silvia were highlights of these evenings. Kurt's RHD 69 2000 was also a hit. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality Kathy and Paul!!!!
The run home was done solo as everyone had different time frames to be home. As you may have read, Ken and Tami drove home Sunday night, partially through a storm that was pretty brutal! Steve and Dar left Monday morning as made it home uneventfully. My drive home was a little more rough as somehow, between arriving at MidOhio and leaving for home, my timing got off 16 degrees. I was able to get this fixed well enough to get home at speed in decent time all things considered.
Aside from the heat and humidity during the days, the weather was perfect. We did have some storms on Saturday and Sunday evenings, but no rain while at the track.
After some early issues, Steve Jacobson finally got his Roadster on the track. It was great to see him in a race and make a great run of it against cars with bigger motors! Too bad about the new scar the car now sports.
I will post pictures once we get home from my daughter's track meet in Naperville.
PEACE
