Are shift plates hard to get?

Post by ppeters914 »

I just missed out (by two cents!) on a shift plate on evilBay. Car died this morning (right at a busy intersection during rush hour...sigh....), so fixing that is a higher priority, however, I'm curious how common/uncommon this item is.

I assume you are talking about the 4 speed shift plates?? They are relatively easy to come by. I may have one but you will have to give me some time to dig through my boxes o' parts to look.

Yes, 4-speed.

Terrific! No rush. When you find it, lemme know. Need to focus on the functional before the cosmetic. Sure would like to make Shasta 2005. :D

Pete,

Is this the plate you are talking about? http://www.311s.org/PublicPics/shiftplate.jpg It is missing the shift pattern sticker or what ever it is suppose to have. Sam I will look for another this week. And Dbrick, sorry I do not have any 5 speed shift plates. Stan Chernoff makes a replica one. He is listed on the vendors page. Don't tell him I sent you or the price may double!! Just kidding sort of!!

Kinda bored this week, might make one to match the radio console. I used perforated aluminum to make the radio console face for a modern radio, original stays uncut on the shelf. Came out nice. got 25 sq feet of the stuff around, might as well use it. This way I don't go messing up original stuff. I'll get a real shift plate when it comes along

Thanks for the effort. Russell Roach found one for me in his cache of extra parts. He gave it to me when I saw him up in Hallett, OK for the Thunder on the Cimarron race days. Sam

Sam,

Glad to hear Russell came through for you. Are you going to post some pictures of him racing? I would like to see him in action.

Steve,

Alas by the time Sam got there the roadster had been bitten by a gremlin...broke a cam! Shattered well more of a clean break right by the gear to drive the dizzy and oil pump. That was the bad news the good news is no bent valves and no dented pistons. trying to get the thing back together for the weekend of the 5 - 7th of Nov.

I would have posted the pix but as Russell saif it was pffffffft. I'm not the race guy that some of you are, but with the lowered frame, beefed up suspension, racing radiator, water pump, gear box, and modified manifold, I believed Russ when he said that it will run like a stiped ass ape. Maybe next time. Sam
