Irratic Timing, Power loss

I've run Pertronix for years, never an issue. Just get a higher output coil and remove the ceramic resistor from the circuit. You can also increase the gaps on the plugs.

The instructions that came with my Pertronix (15 years ago) said "do not run without the ballast resistor". Should mean they are not designed to run on 12 volts continuously.

I went back and forth with this on the phone with Pertronix many years ago, they finally ended up "definitively" telling me I did not need it, IF I used their 40K coil, which I did. I have not had any problems and again, have been using it for 15 plus years. I am assuming that they build their resistance in at the coil?

Sorry, my bad....4 and 6 cylinder engines should not exceed 4 amps (I wonder why the difference).

The Root Mean Square (RMS) current is less for the 8 cylinder because the dwell is smaller.

The amount of time the connection is made for each cylinder on the 8 is less so it needs more current to charge the capacitor to give a good spark.
