Hello from Norway

Post by turboknut »

I found this website a while ago and i thought i should introduce myself.

My name is Knut (pron; Knoot) and i have had many Datsun and Nissan cars through the years.

The Fairlady i own now is my 3rd Roadster, and there are not more than 25-30 Roadsters in Norway. Only one were sold new back in 64, the rest have been imported the last 10-15 years from USA.

My 1966 1600 is an early Fairlady, VIN# 00158 and was imported to Belgium from California late in 2002. It was put for sale on the net and the ad was spotted by another Norwegian guy who bought it and brought it here.
It was in great condition, 2 owners (Los Angeles), no rust ever, no dents, repainted once and interior a bit burned by the sun. Last CA owner had her for 22 years.
It went through a rather expensive frame off restauration the next 2-3 years, tons of NOS parts were bought, a complete new interior was made (leather) and it was repainted in red with clear coat. I also have a new frontscreeen frame (chrome) but its not put on the car yet. The engine was also professionally rebuilt and lots of parts powdercoated.

I have put 7x15 König Rewind wheels on her, but they are a little to wide (ET 0). I am not sure if i m going to keep them or buy a set of new rims with ET 15-20 or so. Right now she is back on her factory rims with hubcaps. I dont drive too much with her, only driven 1100 miles since the rebuild.

I also own a 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec. It has factory-spec's except the wheels (11x18 Volk GT-N) and is one of the few untouched GTR's. The plans for this GTR is to keep it stock, everybody makes all kinds of modifications to their Skylines but i dont really feel for it. Its street legal too..

I also have a 1999 Skyline R34 GTT with 40.000 miles on the clock. It has been tuned by Nismo in Japan and is dynoed to 441 rwhps at only 1.2 bar. It looks so stock, but has many expensive upgrades and is a very fast car. Fun to drive with the RWD and is sometimes used at Drifting events. Due to all the modifications made to it, its not possible to make street legal (in this country) so i m driving on dealer plates.

I also am a lil "addicted" to the Smart cars, i think they are so fun and if you have a grumpy day, just take it for a spin and the day is alot brighter.

My 2008 ForTwo Passion Cabrio has been tuned in Germany to 128 hp's and de-limited. The factory-navi showed 126 mph one night i was driving home. I ordered this car from a Smart-dealer in Germany and it is LOADED with all the extras you can have. Full leather, navi, 17" Lorinser wheels, extra instruments, paddle-shifts, big stereo et.c.

I also have a 2003 Smart Crossblade. Only 2000 were made of this "weird" car without doors and windsheelds and my car is #641. Its a low miler with just a lil over 1000 miles since new. The Crossblade can be driven through a carwash or be parked outside on a rainy day. Mine is resting in my garage.

Welcome Knut-glad you were finally able to join us. Very nice roadster. I like the Smart cars as well. I thought about getting one here in the states but the waiting list was too long for me. I ended up buying a Toyota Yaris.

I am looking forward to getting the other cars from Norway entered into the roadster registry. As I said I am a bit behind on getting the latest entries entered so no big rush. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome. You have a great collection of cars! The Roadster looks great, and I think the leather seats look amazing. I also really like the wheels on that Crossblade.
You have a giant garage, I am envious.

Welcome. I am envious of the Skylines, wonderful road cars if not too heavily modded. I've been curious about the "smart cars" in general as far as driveability. I've wondered about comfort and driveability of a car with such a short wheelbase.
Beautiful roadster, something for me to aspire to.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
The smartcars have a very short wheelbase and since the engine is mounted between the rear wheels, there is not much weight on the front axle.
Makes driving in hard side-wind not too funny. I m driving on 35profile tires and have sport-suspension so compared to a stock smart with stock wheels, this one has less comfort.
I dont think the turbo-version is sold in USA, i visited the Smart Center in Beverly Hills last year and they told me that only the N/A were sold in the states.
The smarts are roomy, i am 6'3 and have lots of space. 0-60 mph is done i less than 8 seconds, and i have taken it to the local racetrack a couple of times.

And thanks for the compliments, i m a Nissan/Datsun-nut and have 1300 different Nissan/Datsun diecast modelcars (scale 1:43) but sadly no display yet... I think i need a big one tho...
Plus 1000's of Nissan/Datsun's salescataloges...

Some more pictures of the Fairlady:
Picture 001.jpg
datsun2.jpg

The Crossblade is also stock and "untouched". It has a 700 cc turbocharged engine that developes 71 hp's and is limited to a top speed of 85 mph. Thats "enough" because you need a helmet for driving faster than 50 mph. Although it has no windscreens it has a heater, and its like driving a motorcycle. Windy, noisy and even OLD grandmams turn their head and wonder what that was...
And if you dress properly, it is possible to drive during the winter too.....

Welcome to the board Knut. That is one beautifully restored Datsun! The Smart Crossblade is interesting. I have never seen or even heard of one. Looks cool though. Nice collection.
