A Truly Special Evening!

Post by tjp »

Thanks to an invite from Bill Wessel and the Madison chapter of the SCCA (I have recently been told that the SCCA was not actually involved in this evening as I had been erroneously informed. Sorry for any confusion and error on my part!), some of the Dairyland Datsuns Club was treated to a truly amazing open tour last
Thursday evening. We were invited to tour the private Richard Munz Roadster
Collection. For those of you who have not heard of this collection, myself
included, here is a link to an Autoweek Great Garages article from March of
2008: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20080310/FREE/136277459" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was an absolutely amazing evening. As can be seen in pictures by Dan
Kroninger, the other “force” behind the resurrection of the DD Club:
http://tinyurl.com/2edj3zb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Great shots Dan! Thanks!! It was great to see so many classic Roadsters that
actually get exercised on a regular basis. This was evidenced by the fresh bugs
in the radiators of the most recently driven cars!

The only “sad” :cry: part of the evening was Mr. Munz’s announcement that he was
selling off part of his collection. It is too bad too, as most likely, the new
owners will most probably not drive their new classics like the current owner
does. Here’s hoping the new owners allow others to enjoy these beautiful cars
the way Mr. Munz did for a number of us last week. Here’s a link to the auction
catalog: http://www.mecum.com/pdf/brochures/munz_brochure.PDF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Between the great beer that was available there, amazing cars, motorcycles and
memorabilia, it was truly a great evening. Hell of way to start the season
here!!

The garage is right down town on East Johnson. A few blocks off the capitol.

I must have passed it a hundred times and never had a clue. It really is amazing he lets people drive them.
Congratulations!

I drove past there just about every tuesday for the last 5 years. Never knew it was there either until last week. it is a very non descript building. Knowing what is in there, I would not want to be advertising too much either.

I am looking into selling a kidney so I can try to bid one one of these cars. I wonder if there is a market for a well used beer (mmmmmmm beeerrrrrrrrr :smt016) soaked kidney that still functions most of the time?
