Hey Phil,
I'm glad you got to see Bill Power's race car (your top picture - I'm standing behind it next to the trailer)
We had a great time. Bill got 1st for best competition roadster tribute car. Bill's car is a '67 SPL with SRL drivetrain. He just started racing last year; a few laps at VIR and blew the engine at Watkins Glen. This year has been much better, Atlanta - Savannah - Atlanta with nothing but oil, gas, and air!
Gary Johnson is our crew chief. He runs East Tennessee Race Prep. Bill, Gary, and I are from the Knoxville area. Charlie Cates is from Nashville (the Lotus 7) and our Sprite is driven by Dennis Gonzales from Peurto Rico.
Dennis is an interesting story. He owns a construction company in Peurto Rico and just started racing this year (remember he took 2nd in the small bore enduro). He was supposed to go to Skip Barber in February at Atlanta, but it was canceled because of cold, ice, snow, etc. They flew him out to Laguna Seca for school and his license. He came back to Atlanta a week later for his first race. He raced with us at Roebling Road in April and Mitty was his 3rd outing.
I drove my 1972 240Z down from Knoxville (I try to drive it to all our races). Carl Beck of the Internet Z Car Club showed up and Gary was able to fix his broken trailer hitch. Carl brought his restored 240Z Baja car down to show us and we got some pictures of the cars together.
The Brocks came down to our trailer to present Bill his plaque and I got Pete to autograph my Z and a 1970 Road & Track magazine I had with a BRE racing article in it. Pretty cool!
I hope to have a roadster of my own at these events some day. I have 3 roadsters in my driveway and have started building a 1969 SRL.
Here are a couple of my pictures:
