Former Owner of 69 2000

Post by Axo »

Hello 311 Club,

I used to own one of these when I was 18 and living in Monrovia in 1972-73. Does anyone happen to have or used to own a yellow 2000 (single carb) with a black California plate of XRS 558? Any thoughts on how to track it down?

I have a casual interest in reacquiring my original vehicle and restoring it. I put on a new top and had to completely rebuild the motor back in 1973 when the crank got bent. When it ran right, that thing could just smoke the tires!!

If I can't find my original vehicle, I might consider acquiring another 2000. Maybe a twin SU 150 HP model? Though right now, my money goes towards a college education for my daughter.

When might you guys be meeting next? It would be nice to take a look at some of these little babies. I'm not too far away in Chino Hills and working in Irvine.

Do you remember the VIN Number? This website has list of VINs and where the car is now. Your might not be listed, but its a start... Take a look at the roadster registry.

My only hope is the DMV. I doubt I'll ever find the original registration.

Another thought just struck me, maybe the insurance company? Anyone have experience with them? Don't they keep everything about everybody, forever?

I finally got an answer from the insurance company. It was a big fat zero. :(

My next thought is the DMV. Unfortunately, they don't have electronic records for anything earlier than 1976. There might not be any records at all. :x I do have a friend at a car dealer that might be able to get more information out of the DMV than a private individual. So it's worth a try. :)

Any other ideas??

Thanks

Here is an off-the-wall idea...Try Ebay..

I recently sold my 1964 SPL310 roadster on ebay...and a previous owner saw the car for sale and contacted me. He provided some great stories and even some early photos...

Maybe craft an ebay- type ad (ie, Looking for Car) to look for your car?
