Hi gang, just wanted to give an update... I have been looking at tires and working on what I hope is a good compromise for me. I finally decided to go ahead with the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires. Yes they are an all season tire which I do not need and are not as sticky as the Dunlops for sure, but they should last a lot longer and give a better ride while still being quite good dry or wet. The final decider was that the price had dropped in the past week to only $53 a tire (195/60/14) at Tire Rack (I think they were $69)... that is damn cheap and worth me posting it in case others are interested. Mine are being shipped, but it will be a bit before I get them mounted and can give feedback. Summer's coming!!! Yippie!!! Now I just need the new rear springs...

Well, not typical "passenger car" tires, but I agree not "drive on the street but are more track tires" that wear out in 10k miles. Most of the reviews I read were on a variety of different cars, including a few Miatas (comparable to a Roadster in size and weight) and people were happy with them. As for the Azenis, I have never been impressed with a Faulkin or Faulkin based tire (marketed under a different name but made by the parent company OTSU). I had some, as well as a set of Dunlop D60 M2s, and the Bridgestone Re71s I currently have would be considered a "passenger car" high performance all season tire, which have been good to me. They rode a million times better than the OTSU/FAULKINS and the Dunlops, gripped well without drama and seemed to suit the car well. Also, treadwear on the Dunlop is 200, where as the Bridgestone is 400. I have and plan to do a fair amount of distance driving this year, driving hard at times but never likely tracking the car, so the compromise made sense to me. The Roadster is not exactly blessed with a sophisticated suspension so you're only gonna get so much, and I want to enjoy the ride on many different levels that includes ride quality (ha! I know, I have a comp suspension!). And at half the cost, I can afford to spend money on other items for the car as well as other things I like to do, like travel 6 times a year. So, to each his own!

Thanks for the info on the TireRack prices. I've got 4 of the Potenzas coming. I got my racing trophy on the Falkens a few years ago, but since I've done the frame-off, I think her racing days are retired...just leisurely cruises now...

The way that I look at tires on Roadsters is that they will dry rot before they wear out if the car is a toy. Daily driver is a different issue. That being the case, I don't buy the ultra performance tires - I buy compromise tires.

Well, like I said, the Dunlops are very nice tires but considerably more expensive ($84 each with rebate vs the $53 for the Potenza), wear out a lot faster and probably will ride a bit harder. I also could not confirm from Dunlop that they even MADE the tire in a 195/60/14, eventhough Tirerack had them listed. The Potenza is an ultra high performance all season tire, where as the dunlop is a summer only tire w/ perhaps questionable wet grip. My car does not see a lot of rain, but if Washington is known for anything, it's RAIN! The dry grip on these tires was quite good by all accounts, so it just seemed the best compromise of performance, price and versatility. I'm glad my posting was helpful to others, and yes Alvin, you were a bit snobbish but I know it's not your true nature

I don't think that Alvin was intentionally trying to be obtuse - like Greg said, it is not his nature. Alvin - like the vast majority of folks here is cool. The problem with written communication is that how you feel when you read it can change the meaning drastically.

Both have good points. I tend to be more of Greg's perspective than Alvin's on this subject, but for different reasons. That said, if the cost of the tire were no object, I would be all over a set of Cokers....

Note, I did end my comments with admiration of your contributions! I did not mean to offend quite so highly either - again, as stated above - the internet is easily misunderstood.
So....it was meant as a comment on my surprise at your response (being out of character) and a gentle jab - (I mean come-on elitist snob??!!).
As far as budget, I must say, your car looks so damn good I merely assumed you spared no expense, on any part of it and thus set a high bar to cross!!

Ya, absolutely Alvin, just havin some fun with ya! We have spent too much time at Shasta to be worried about silly stuff! I did not take any real offense. But, as has been pointed out, written communication (or communication of any sort for that matter) is a tricky thing, and it always pays to be aware that things can be read differently under different circumstances! Pissing matches are for silly people, not Roadster people!
