howdy, my first roadster, but not my first datsun
i just purchased a 1970 1600 for my wife. it runs and drives, the carbs need some tuning of course. mainly it needs paint and body work.
i believe i will be going with Ztherapy carbs and a bisco dizzy soon.
anyone else got any tips or maybe better places for the dizzy and carbs?
it was originally a spanish red car, it is now burgandy, one repaint... it will be going a differnt color this year anyway. no red....

Welcome.
If you restore cars for a living we may be asking you questions. Well maybe I will LOL
Where is your location? You can put it in your profile.

There is a guy in Ohio sells SU carbs on Ebay, A few people have used them with good results.

You can check a few things first on the carburetors, see if the float is sunk or the fuel level/float level off, as this will make the mixture incorrect.
The later cars usually run much better when a non-smog advance is added, either to the original distributor or whan changed to an electronic.
Info on distributors in the WIKI http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... ionOptions
Oh, and it's Brisco
Good luck with the car, Spring is here soon!

yeah i saw those guys carbs on ebay, i was wondering about them. mine runs good just a touch rich and he said he never could get it any better so i am assuming some worn parts on the inside. he has rebuilt them.... i would rather just start from scratch because i know those carbs can be a bear if something is worn in them.
i have worked on the same carbs on volvo b18 motors before in amazon 122 cars.

Hey Cookie,
Good to see you made it over to 311s. Ratsun is good entertainment and all but this is where you want to be to sort out your Roadster. To check for worn throttle shafts, spray carb cleaner on the ends of the shaft while the car is running. If it speeds up, you have a leak. Do all four ends at idle and then set the control screw so that the car is at 2000 rpm and check it again. Shafts wear in at different places over the years. Get the correct return springs also if you don't have them. Too heavy and they put too much stress on the carbs. I also carry a spare set in the side pocket of the drivers door. I really sucks if you break or loose one going down the highway.
