All,
I'm in need of a new soft top and tonneau cover for my 68 2000 with original head rest seats and roll bar. This car is a driver, so I would like to stay as dry as possible !, and still have durability and good look. I don't plan on driving in the rain if all possible, but it happens.
Any suggestions ??
JC

RE:Soft Tops
Most of the vendors carry soft tops. The canvas tops are very nice but a little pricy for me. There is actually a guy on the east coast who sells vinyl tops for our roadsters. The guy's name is Sydney but I do not have his contact info handy. Maybe someone else does? Vinyl tops that are installed correctly look great and provide some protection from the elements. I do not think any convertible is completely water proof-especially a roadster.

The low windshield cars originally were delivered with canvas tops. The high windshield cars were delivered with vinyl tops. If you are going original, that is in your favor as canvas tops are way pricey. Sidney advertises in Hemmings Motor News on a regular basis. There are several internet sites that sell tops as well. There are not that many manufacturers that I have found, so that levels the field a bit. Lots of folks complained about the Crown tops, but I have had very good service out of them. Same with Robbins tops. If you are going to install it yourself, buy an inexpensive one as you may make a boo boo on it. It hurts less to screw up a $200 top than it does a $500 top.

RE:Soft Tops
All,
Thanks for the info.
I will contact Sidney and go from there. I plan on installing it myself, I have done tops on other cars, so hopefully no boo, boo's !
I was just wondering if one vendor's top fit and look better than another.
There are a few out there, but without touching and seeing first hand its hard to judge them. Vinyl is what I'd plan to use for both.
Did some write waterproof and roadster in the same sentence?
Just kidding, I worked for Jaguar in one of my past lives, leaks, rattles and the prince of darkness, that sort of thing is normal.
Thanks Again,
JC

I went through this several months ago... and found that almost all of the Soft Tops in this country come from one of 2 manufacturers.
I ended up buying a Robbins Top #2123. You cannot buy direct from Robbins, but more than likely can find a local auto upholstery shop who can get it for you.
Since you are at an upholstery shop, you might also find out how much to have them install it.
