The sun visor on my 70 would never stay up very long. It was one of those things, Ill get to it some day. Well this was the day. I took the visor bracket off that holds the corner end up. It is also the lower part for the top latch. And low and behold there is a small threaded hole in the bottem for a allen screw...or. So $ .75 later, and it even stays up. So im just letting ya all know incase no one told you either.

Thanks for the FYI. I wonder if my 68 has the same set screw. Neither my driver or passenger side visor stays up. Funny... when I was working on my car I never noticed the screw. Then again I was not looking for it.

That was my problem, wasnt looking for anything when I put my new top on. The screws in mine werent there, just the threaded holes. The visor bar that goes through the bracket has a flat spot. I put the allen screw in lined er up with flat spot on rod. Tighteneder up.

It is amazing how we miss the small stuff. I will check that on mine when she comes out of storage. Neither of my visors stay up. Thanks for the heads up.

Another thought. When you put in the allen screw and tighten it up to the flat spot on the bracket, will the visors be locked in place or will they still be able to be adjusted up or down to block the sun ?????? I am in the same position as Dan, it is supposed to get down to zero tonight. I don't plan on addressing the issue until it warms up, but I thought I would ask while I was thinking about it.

Yes, if your visor is stock as mine appears to be it goes up and down fine. There is also a philips screw in the corner that can be used to tighten up the visor on the rod. How does it work... not sure. Before I found the screw hole, I was going to put some small "O" rings on the visor rod and put it onto the bracket. Which could work also if all else fails.

The phillips screw is through a band. Think like a hose clamp. You tighten the philips screw and it clamps down on the rod so that it won't flop around. Loosen it up and it should move more freely.
I suspect you already guessed this would be the next question. In the event my car does not have the set screws, do you recall the size of the set screw. From your picture, it does not appear to be a big screw. Is it long ? Do you recall the thread size? I have a tap and die set so I should be able to figure it out. Just thought I would ask. Maybe I will brave the cold and try and check it out this weekend.

Dont know the size, It was the 3rd smallest allen screw that Ace had in SAE. I got an allen wrench also cause I wasnt sure I even had one that small. Rather than drive a whole mile back to Ace. Would had cost me more in gas. Just measured the allen wrench accross the flats, it is .078". Length is less than 1/4" more like 1/8" mine could be shorter. I Took the bracket with to Ace, only 2 screws holding it. Just unlatched, didnt even have to move top up. 2 screws and allen wrench was about $1.40.

When I bought my roadster one of the first jobs I did was to fix the visor problem, I found that tightening the grub screw and shaft screw wouldnt stop it from dropping down, there was a large amount of wear in the hole and was semi oval, I drilled the hole out larger to get a perfect round hole, then made a bush that was a tight fit on the end of visor shaft, and would rotate in the hole, and now light pressure on the grub screw keeps the visor up, that was 6yrs ago and no probs since. just my slant on repairing it if all else fails...
And if one sends brackets off to be rechromed, make sure the screws are removed. I have just spent 3 hrs persuading plated in screws to release. The screws are brass, so one needs to be careful or the head will snap off, then the fun really starts.
