Midwest Roadster owners

Midwest Roadster owners! We're starting to get some concentrations of roadsters here in the Midwest, particularly in Kansas City -MO, St Louis- MO and Chicago- IL. We can't seem to get anything started up so far, so Dave Driemeier suggested we tag along/join with the Z car clubs as a method to get started. I think that's a great idea as well and will be joining the Gateway Z club for their Herman Winery run in September! Hope to see some of you St Louis locals there!

Hey Eric,

My brother lives in Iowa just outside of Des Moines. He might be interested. He is doing a frame off on a 1968 1600. He kind of got side tracked but we all know how that goes. :D

Excellent! Wish I would have known that last November! My brother and I picked up a '66 race car in Des Moines and took it to a friend in Colorado, where I picked up my last car I had left in Colorado. Fun trip!

Yes, there are plenty of us still around. Your run sounds like fun but I am in either southern Missouri or southern Iowa. That would be quite a road trip to get there. Not that I mind doing road trips in the roadster. My brother and I may make it but no promises. There is also a fellow up your way that may be buying his first roadster. I am sure he would be interested.

My wife and I are working out a basic trip itinerary this weekend and will be sending out info before the weekend is done. One of the "directions" we are considering is south, towards Iowa and MO. If we don't do a trip to MO this year, then maybe next year we will try plan a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks area. There might be a twisty road or two around there.

I have had an email from Dan in Madison and am going to make a couple calls to see if I can find a Roadster or two for him to look at locally. Hopefully we can find something for him!

Can I get you to send my your email Steve so I can add it to my list?

PEACE :D

Eric, Steve, Chris and Tim,

We definitely need to get all the midwest owners together! I know a guy in Madison who picked up a 1970 from CA. I will see if he is interested in joining. I also know another guy to through a local mechanics shop, but I have not seen his car yet. I think we need to get a nice roadster event up on capitol square. Maybe do a WI brewery tour!! Nothing beats cars, sun, and beer!! I like Tim's idea of a run along the mississippi. Devils lake state park has some nice roads too. I can't wait to get me a nice ride so I can be an official member

I just wish it would stop snowing already. We got another 7" so far, and its still coming down.

P.S. Anyone else into disc golfing? Maybe we could do a disc golf Datsun tour. There are several great courses in the area. Just a thought.

contact Bill Wessel in Madison, Wisconsin.

he was on this forum or can be found through the Madison Sports Car Club.

He started the Datsun Dairyland Roadster Club that met once a year at Road America during the July Vintage Race. It was a lot of fun.

I attended a few years and we really had a good time.

Maybe he can help with past roadster dudes......

oh yeah, COUNT ME IN TOO!

I have "goals" to attend the Road America events this year.
June Sprints
Vintage Weekend

What do you plan on attending?

And I might attend anything local on Z stuff - either Windy City Z or Gateway Z Club.

the majority of you all are way north of me. St. Louis or Kansas City would be about a four to five hour drive for me, and that wouldn't be too bad, for a long weekend.

i am just thirty miles south of Branson, MO, which you might consider, with all of the great roads here in the ozarks.

Hey there Midwestern Datsun Roadster owners,

Yes, the weather is turning and it's just about time to get the cars out! Tim and Connie have taken the lead on organizing a few runs. I joined them on one late last fall and had a blast. Then we gathered at Blackhawk for the Long Races where two roadsters were in the field (one was old #20, my old car). Pete is right remembering the Dairyland Datsun Roadster Dayouts we held in the 90's to Road America and the Chicago Vintage Historics. We had some great gatherings; I've got the scrapbook.

Since then I've been doing SCCA Nationals with the car I bought from Col. Joe Hauser, a four-time National champion. While I've had my share of success winning races, the National podium remains a goal. Changes to the rules recently (loss of G class) means more of a challenge as we try to get competitive in F class.

My races this year begin with May 2-3rd at Blackhawk Farms, followed by May 16-17th at Blackhawk. Then June Sprints at RA on the 19th, 20-21st. The Cat National in July at RA, the 24-26th, and a new RA date in late Aug on the 29-30th. The big news is that the runoffs (National Championships) are at Road America for the next three years, beginning this Sept and running from the 21-27th.

Steve Jacobson and I have been building him an engine for his vintage car. Stay tuned for more on his outings with it. See you at the track!
