2 liter SU's are next

Post by 70MTroadster »

Hello again fellow roadster nuts,

As usual, too much going on and it is TOO HOT up here in MT/WA to do anything but survive it.

Had the stroker flying down the road the other evening and at 110 mph the engine seemed to be maxed out.....I am thinking not enough carburetion  So.....

If I can just find some time somewhere and it will cool off to where a fella can even think, I'll tackle the Steve Allen 2 liter carb mod. Can't hurt, right :D

Scott,

If you are running the 1600 carbs with stock .092 nozzles its not gonna happen. I would suggest going to .100 nozzles this is what I run in my full race motor allows ya to use the 1.6 L carbs and get more fuel

Try a set of dual 40mm Solexs. That will solve your issues real quick. Set up correctly you will have something that runs as efficiently as fuel injection, won't need to be tweeked on a regular basis (I spend about 1 minute every 3000 miles or so to balance mine.) and will flow plenty well.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Will,

You are probably 100% correct....only issue is moolah, greenbacks, dollars.....

Scott

and I already have the 2L SU's and have not found SU's to be finicky or needing adjustment all the time, but, again.....if I had the bucks I would follow your lead..... 8)

Russel,

It would be easier to put in the .100 nozzles before I go to the 2L SU's so that will be my lst modification

Scott,

I will see what needles I have in mine, so we can put you a little further along. The Thousands nozzle are the way to go, once I switched to them I had no problems running too lean.

The solex setup can be done a LOT cheaper for the R/G/H engines than the U engines. Pierce Manifolds sells an intake with linkage for about $300 if I recall correctly. JAM engineering (I think) has the same unit for less. I will see if I can locate their web site.

Used carbs - either Weber, Dellorto, or Solex can be had for about $150 - 200 on Ebay. If you go with Weber or Dellorto, linkage is an easy do as there is a PILE of stuff available for them. Mikunis are much harder to get linkage stuff for...

I was right, it is JAM Engineering. They sell the manifold for $205. If you use Weber carbs, you can buy a bottom mount or top mount linkage assembly and be set. They have a linkage setup for $73 available that is more similar to what we are used to seeing.

So, the price is about the same as Pierce. Basically, for $500, you can be set - even including aircleaners if you are frugal and source stuff good used.

Here are some links:

JAM website http://www.jameng.com/

Pierce Manifolds website http://www.piercemanifolds.com/

Racetep linkage http://www.racetep.com/linkage.html

There are more out there, but that will whet your whistle. Also, for those that want power, here is a tip. Go to the big muscle car swap meets and keep your eyes open. I once found a 2000 manifold with carbs, velocity stacks and linkage for the princely sum of $50!
