Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
Hi Leigh.
At this time, (weather dependent), Greg Burrows and I plan to drive our roadsters from the Seattle area.
There might be a couple more roadsters going but not sure yet.
Hope to see you there.
Ted.

It's their 25th Annual, should be somewhat special.
See you there.

Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
I'll see you guys there. I've never been to the Blue Lake Show so I have a question. Do the cars park in groups according to the model or is it a free-for-all.. .Bill
Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
In the past the organizers have done their darndest to group vehicles by model (they're all Datsun or Nissan), but it gets hard to predict how many of each one to expect. This makes it near impossible to designate areas for each model that aren't either overwhelmed or under utilized.
I've also seen cars show up as late as 12:00-1:00pm and still want to be parked with their model, which has now been surrounded by other cars that wanted to be close to the center of events. Then I've also seen friends save spots for their friends who weren't driving the same model car.
While this may be more disorganized, it is due more to the non-enforcement of strict "rules" than anything else. Generally, it is a day to meet people, have fun and enjoy a pleasant setting.
But, for the most part, everyone tries to fit in and work with the organizers.

I just accidently heard about this meet. Not a peep on the roadster list. If I can make the time I will try to make it. Mr. Hyde has just finished quite a bit of work since returning from Shasta, but this would be a good outing before the meet in Shed, OR on the 22nd. Tom
Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
As a thought, would anyone consider coming in to the show in a group? I plan on getting there about 9:30's give or take a few minutes to try to get a good central spot.
Coming in from Vancouver, I usually take Marine Drive from I-5 just to enjoy the drive on the river, then via the "back" way to Blue Lake. Even coming north on 205 would still allow for meeting on Marine Drive.
But I'm tossing this out there to see if there is any interest.

I'll be headed there on Marine Drive as well. I'm just a few blocks off Columbia, west of I-5 in NoPo. Do you want to meet up at Jantzen Beach or somewhere? I still don't know the area that well.

I'll be leaving home around 7:30am and plan on connecting up with Marine Drive from I-205 around 9:15-9:30, I don't know the area that well. If I new of a location to meet up at, I would name one...Bill
Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
Bill:
Exit 24B off 205 takes you to Airport Way, turn RIGHT off the off-ramp and head EAST, you'll see a Shari's Restaurant on the Left hand side of the road, just before Glenn Widding Road, that's a possibility to meet at. They have a fairly large parking lot and it wouldn't be too far for us to come off Marine Drive to join you or for you to catch up to us.
Or you could continue on Airport Way (about 2 lights) to 122nd and take a LEFT heading NORTH and go for one long block which takes you to Marine Drive. Then a RIGHT and the next exit for you would be Blue Lake.
Leigh:
Jantzen Beach is very convenient to meet at, you'll be going a bit further north than the Marine Drive exit, but it will be easier to connect. Take the Jantzen Beach exit off I-5 North, and stay in the right lane and take a right at the first opportunity. That will loop you around and under the freeway, keep following it and when you get to the next light, take a left INTO the mall parking lot. Turn into the RIGHT hand lot, which used to be a Car Service Bay for Montgomery Wards years ago. That way it's easy to find each other and get back onto the highway.
My cell phone is 360-931-6744 and in order to match with Bill, we'll need to meet at Jantzen Beach about 9:00am.
If things go awry, give a holler and we can adjust, or modify plans.

That sounds great, I've got your number so I will either call you when we get to the Shari's or if things are running late.
So far it's just me in the Yellow 70 2000 and Dave Neal in his Blue 68 1600 that will be heading north on I-5.. Bill

Re: Blue Lake Datsun show this weekend - Oregon
Well, things did go a bit awry that Sunday.
On the way to meet up with Leigh as I was speaking to him on the cell phone, I braked for the Stop sign.... BANG! A loud noise from underneath the car and a sharp pull to the Right. Pressed the brake again and my left front tire decided to go ahead on it's own.
I have knock-off wheels and apparently the wheel had not fully engaged the gear teeth on the adapter even though I'd tightened the knock-off nut tightly. Once I applied the brakes, the friction of brake and rolling speed allowed the wheel to mesh and suddenly the knock-off nut could spin loose and off.
Was able to get the car up and although I could get the wheel on, I could not tighten the knock-off nut. The threads on the adapter were damaged. Quick limp home, fast thread cleanup with a file and a Dremel and we were off to the show again. Thankfully there wasn't any body panel damage.
Blue Lake's 25th Annual Show 'n Shine had one of the largest group of cars in years. Northwest Z's members came out in force and took home several awards. The 240 and 300 classes were theirs, both 1st and 2nd place awards in each. Best in Show went to "Tweete" a highly customized Roadster with a "dipped" yellow paint job that is quite stunning. My car received Best Roadster and 2nd place Interior. 1200's were in record numbers with 9 in attendance... who knew there were that many in the area at all? 510's in Sedan, Coupe and Wagon models abounded with some very nice examples of each.
I'll post what pictures I took, but I know they won't do the show justice, so hopefully some of the other members who attended will post theirs. Bill Cole, David Neal with wife and son, Leigh Brooks with his wife and others whose name escapes me at the moment.
All in all, a day that started with gloomy overcast weather with a hint of rain, turned into a sunshine filled afternoon.
Hope everyone had a good time.
