loose axle

Post by dynaguy »

Just got the Miata seats installed. While I had the rear end of the car off the ground, I checked for the clunking noise I had been hearing. The rear passenger axle will move from 1/4-3/8" when I grab the wheel and pull away from the car. I have an axle rebuild kit waiting, any thing else I should look for while the rear end is apart? Make sure everything matches the manual. I had one that someone had cut away the backing plate to change the brakes-The only thing holding the wheel on was the grease seal...!

After that, make sure the axles are large enough that the collar is not loose.

Also a good time to change the oil in the diff..TR
