Yeah, if you want the "original" look you can always get them chrome plated.sfdaugherty wrote: Since 68 bumpers are pretty rare, I may just have to cough up the cash for the SS ones.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
I have yet to fit them on my roadster but will take some pictures tonight and post them. I think they look as good or better than chrome. I do not think you would have to have them chromed to look good on the original bumpers. I sent them the rare hard to get 68 bumper and lots of pictures of the other styles. I have an early set for my purposes with no indent in the rear bumper and no over riders. Pics tonight.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
I have to say I believe the stainless steel bumpers look better than even show chrome. The pictures do not do them justice. I did run into a minor issue as the stock bolts do not fit the captive nuts they have welded in place. Once I get that sorted out I will get them mounted.

Hopefully this weekend I will get them on.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
Well polished stainless can look every bit as good as chrome. Stainless can even have a process done to it called electropolishing which is very shiny/smooth and adds durability ($$$). Did they say what the grade of stainless used is? It will make a difference on how long that shine will last. They do look pretty nice. The proof will be in the fit.

Does this type of stainless need a lot of maintainence or repolishing, as compared to chrome?

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
Mark,
Here is the blurb from the Ebay ad:
Our bumpers have big advantages over chrome plated mild steel bumpers:
1. Our bumpers never rust and are backed with a lifetime anti corrosion warranty. We are happy to put our money where our mouth is on this! Just think- should your bumpers ever rust- we will send you new ones!
2. If the bumpers get dented or scratched they can be beaten back to shape and re-polished.
3. Our bumpers are made in very high grade (304/ 1.4301) stainless steel. (Around 1/5 of the steel is pure CHROME!!!)
4. Painted back - The back of the bumpers are acid etch primed and painted with ICI two pack paint.
5. Our bumpers are finished to a high mirror polish, just like chrome.
Like I said they do look very nicely done.

Just so we all know-the mounting bolts are 8 MM-unsure of pitch right now. Will update when I sort it out.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
Thanks for the legwork Steve. As a suggestion, perhaps you could let the mfg. know that they should include new bolts to prevent this issue.

Sid,
I already emailed them this morning suggesting exactly that which would be a plus for the product.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
Steve, If the mounting bolts and captive nuts are stainless, be sure to use anti-seize when installing. Stainless galls badly when assembling. You might not be able to remove the bolts in the future. I'd use anti-seize even if the bolts were not stainless. Dissimilar metals can do funny things. FWIW Pat Mahoney

Thanks both for the recommendation of using anti-seize. I will do just that with the bolts.

Re: Stainless steel bumpers
I finally got them mounted. I had a problem getting the correct bolts. I bought what I thought were 8mm x 1.25 pitch from the local hardware store. They did not fit. I finally located my thread gauge and verified they were indeed 8mm x 1.25 pitch but the bolts I purchased were really 8mm x 1.0 pitch. I dug through my bin of bolts and found enough to get them mounted.
The front fits like a glove. The rear fits but is missing the slight curve towards each end. They still look great and fit fine. For the purist they would probably not do but I am satisfied with them. I did let the manufacturer know about this minor issue.
Any way-here are pictures of them mounted.
