Stock rim color - opinions?

Post by BlackEddy »

So, I've been toying with the idea of repainting my stock rims black to give my car a slightly different look. I thought black looks a little more "vintage" and might give the car a bit of a "sporty" look. Here's a quick photoshop job I did:

Also, if I paint them black should I go satin or gloss? I was leaning towards satin...

Your opinion counts! Thx!

I like satin black, but you need whitewalls to give some separation. If you go with blackwall tires, I would keep the grey wheels.
Here's a few real photos, no retouch, the 66 I used to have. Looked better clean.

I vote for the black, it gives a better contrast & highlights the wheels, but you gotta keep the whitewall tires, it adds a nice seperation line to the look.

I like silver myself. I have a black set and think that they look kind of blah, but am keeping them that way for a project.

I had black wheels on my 67, with stock hubcaps and chrome trim rings. The trim rings made a big difference.

Edit: We put them on Alans car before Watkins Glen 2007 and I found a photo:

The fact I can crawl under a Roadster without jacking it up make me think I really AM that skinny.

Black wheels and trim rings with or without whitewalls is my vote.
Ahh the Glen, wonder what I get to repair this year...

Yeah, the jury is still out... everyone I ask has a different opinion.
It doesnt halp matters that my desire to have a different look is being cancelled out by my inherent laziness. :)

Powder coat them yellow, with caps and rings. different, but cool.
